Charles Voss did not believe in miracles because miracles were bad for business.
He stepped fully into the hospital room, his expensive leather shoes squeaking against the pristine floor.
His eyes darted from the spiking heart monitor to the small, trembling child standing on the stepstool.
"Get this woman and her kid out of here," Voss snapped at the private security guard waiting in the hall.
Maria immediately grabbed Sophia by the waist and pulled her away from the bed.
She knew better than to argue with the men who signed her paychecks.
"I am so sorry, sir," Maria whispered, her head bowed in submission.
"This is a sterile environment, not a daycare center," Voss hissed, adjusting his silk tie.
Dr. Elena Park stepped between the chairman and the housekeeper.
