Chapter 34 - The Dawn of the Unwritten Page

The sun rose over the eastern ridge with a brilliant, blinding clarity, burning away the midnight chill in a matter of minutes and washing the stone terraces in a tide of pure, unblemished gold.
Inside the grand study, the heavy oak desk sat completely bare, save for a single sheet of pristine, unlined white paper and a slender black fountain pen resting neatly beside it. There were no ledgers, no cyphers, and no warrants. The past had been thoroughly audited, balanced, and buried beneath the soil of the estate.
Elena and Ricardo stood by the tall arched windows of the library, looking out over the vast, sunlit expanse of the Mediterranean. Leo was already downstairs, his distant chatter audible as he badgered one of the estate hands about helping to feed the courtyard doves.
Ricardo picked up the fountain pen, his fingers steady and sure against the smooth black resin. He didn't look back toward the empty room, nor did he hesitate. He looked at Elena, his dark eyes shining with quiet, absolute devotion.
"Shall we write the next line?" he asked softly.
May you like
Elena smiled, her hand coming up to rest over his on the edge of the desk, her fingers intertwining with his as she leaned her head against his shoulder.
"Write whatever you want, my love," she whispered, as the morning wrapped its bright, warm arms around the villa. "The page is entirely ours."
