Chapter 25 - The Collapse of the Cross Dynasty

The arrest was executed with surgical, clinical silence.
Special Agent David Vance of the Drug Enforcement Administration walked across the ballroom floor, stepping over the discarded submachine guns, stopping directly beside the trembling, silver-haired patriarch.
"Camillo Cross," Vance announced, unhooking a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his tactical belt. "Under a provisional arrest warrant issued this afternoon by the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, you are charged with transnational narcotics trafficking, conspiracy to commit extortion, and weapons smuggling under the federal RICO statute."
Click. Snap.
The steel cuffs bit into Camillo’s wrists, pinning his arms behind his tailored Milanese jacket.
Camillo did not yell. He did not fight. The ancient mob boss seemed to shrink inside his expensive wool suit, his posture collapsing into the pathetic, withered ruin of a man whose seventy-year illusion of invincibility had been shattered in thirty seconds.
As the federal agents pulled him toward the freight elevators, Camillo twisted his neck, his bloodshot, hateful eyes locking onto me one last time.
"You destroyed everything..." Camillo choked out, spitting blood onto his collar. "My brother... my niece... our name... all of it buried by a servant girl."
I stood up from my chair.
I stood tall, regal, the emerald velvet of my gown catching the searchlight beams pouring through the windows, the Vera diamonds flashing like fire against my skin.
"Your name was buried by your own greed, Camillo," I told him, every word falling like an iron ingot onto stone. "You believed power was taking what didn't belong to you through terror and pain. But true power is building a family that cannot be broken. Take your hatred with you into the concrete, old man. Because this city will never speak your name again."
Camillo bowed his head in total, humiliating defeat, allowing the federal agents to drag him out through the double doors, sealing him out of our world forever.
The ballroom fell quiet once more, save for the low thrum of the tactical helicopters circling outside in the rainy night.
Special Agent Vance walked over to our table, pulling a signed document from his leather folio, handing it to Mateo with deep, professional respect.
"The federal court has executed an emergency civil attachment on the breakwater bonds, Mr. Vera," Vance reported. "All thirty million euros have been seized and placed into the custody of the municipal port authority. The default is canceled. Your docks are secure."
Mateo took the document, looking down at the federal seal, then looked at the agent with a curt, respectful nod. "Thank you, David. Tell the commissioner the harbor owes him a proper dinner."
"He prefers steak, Mateo," Vance smiled, turning to supervise the removal of the remaining prisoners.
Mateo turned to me.
The cold, ruthless kingpin vanished in an instant. He reached out, his warm, calloused hands gently cupping my cheeks, his ice-blue eyes swimming with an emotion so deep, so vast, that it made my breath catch in my throat.
"Are you all right, my queen?" Mateo murmured, his thumbs tenderly tracing the line of my cheekbones.
May you like
"I’m more than all right, Mateo," I whispered, resting my hands against his chest, feeling the steady, unbroken rhythm of his heart. "I’m ready to go home to our children."
He leaned down, pressing his lips to mine in a slow, deep, triumphant kiss that tasted of rain, victory, and the sweet, unbreakable promise of an eternal dawn.
