Chapter 10 - The New Queen of Chicago

One entire year had passed since the violent, rainy night that completely changed the trajectory of the Romano syndicate forever.
The massive estate in Highland Park had been completely restored, stronger and more beautiful than it had ever been before.
But the most incredible transformation was not in the architecture of the house; it was in the fundamental operations of the family business.
Ruby had refused to be a silent, submissive mafia wife who looked the other way while innocent people suffered in the streets.
She had leveraged her immense, undeniable influence over Vincent to completely restructure his vast criminal empire into a legitimate, charitable powerhouse.
The Romano family no longer extorted poor neighborhoods or ran illegal loan-sharking rings that destroyed desperate families.
Instead, they invested millions of dollars into building community centers, funding hospitals, and providing free, secure housing for domestic abuse survivors.
The terrifying men who used to break legs for a living were now managing legitimate construction companies and protecting local businesses.
Vincent had gladly surrendered his dark, violent crown, completely prioritizing the absolute safety and happiness of his beautiful, growing family.
On a bright, sunny Saturday afternoon, the sprawling back lawns of the Highland Park estate were completely transformed into a massive, breathtaking wedding venue.
Hundreds of loyal friends, legitimate business partners, and happy family members gathered under a massive canopy of imported white roses.
Ruby stood at the end of the long, silk-lined aisle, looking absolutely radiant and unimaginably beautiful in a custom-designed, flowing white wedding gown.
The expensive, brilliant fabric hugged her gorgeous curves perfectly, completely celebrating the body she had finally learned to love.
Vincent stood at the altar waiting for her, looking incredibly handsome in a classic black tuxedo, completely unable to take his dark, adoring eyes off of his bride.
But the most beautiful moment of the entire ceremony did not involve the expensive flowers, the classical music, or the glittering diamond rings.
It was the sight of a completely happy, entirely healed three-year-old boy walking proudly down the aisle in a tiny, matching tuxedo.
Leo carried a small velvet pillow containing their wedding bands, walking with absolute confidence and a massive, bright smile on his face.
When he reached the altar, he did not hand the rings to his father immediately.
Instead, the little boy who used to scream and throw heavy wooden toys reached his tiny arms up toward the beautiful bride.
Ruby knelt down carefully in her massive wedding dress, completely ignoring the expensive fabric touching the grass, and pulled the child into a fierce hug.
"I love you, Mommy," Leo whispered clearly and perfectly into her ear, completely cementing her permanent place in his heart.
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy streamed down Ruby’s face as she kissed the little boy’s cheek and stood back up to face her future husband.
Vincent reached out, gently wiping the happy tears from her face with his thumb, completely mesmerized by the incredible woman standing before him.
"You completely changed this city, Ruby," Vincent whispered softly as he took her hands in his own.
"You brought the light into the absolute darkest corners of my world, and you saved my soul."
The priest spoke the traditional vows, but the promises they made to each other in their hearts were far deeper than simple words.
They promised to protect the weak, to cherish their family, and to love each other fiercely until the end of time.
When Vincent finally leaned down and kissed his beautiful, curvy bride, the entire garden erupted into deafening, joyous applause.
Ruby Romano, the poor, exhausted maid who had arrived at the gates with an eviction notice in her purse, smiled into the kiss.

She had completely tamed the most dangerous monster in Chicago, entirely transforming an empire of blood into a kingdom of absolute love.
And as she looked out at her happy family and her secure, peaceful world, she knew she would never, ever be invisible again.
