Chapter 14 - Shadows on the Horizon

While the interior of the study remained warm and insulated from the world, my mind occasionally drifted to the encrypted warnings flashing across my private terminal earlier that morning. Deep within the digital underground, whispers were beginning to circulate. The remnants of the Hollow Court—an ancient syndicate of European elites who viewed our American expansion as an existential threat—were attempting to regroup across the Atlantic.
They believed that by retreating to the domesticity of Lake Forest, I had grown soft. They assumed that a man surrounded by children and art could no longer command the lethal precision that had dismantled their predecessors. They were dangerously mistaken.
I looked down at the children playing around my desk, feeling a surge of absolute, unyielding resolve. Every brick in these walls, every algorithm in our defense grid, and every loyal operative in our global network existed for one single purpose: to ensure that the darkness of our past never crossed the threshold of our future.
“Let them come,” I whispered quietly to the empty room, looking past the children out the large bay windows at the sprawling estate bathed in the golden autumn sun.

Inside these walls, we weren't just surviving. We were cultivating an eternal dynasty.
