Chapter 24 - Justice Served

The winter snows melted away, giving way to the brilliant, blossoming warmth of a new spring in Baltimore. Inside the federal district courtroom, the final chapter of the legal battle against Victoria Vance and Marcus Sterling reached its definitive conclusion.
Judge Henderson sat behind the mahogany bench, reviewing the final federal sentencing memoranda. The evidence compiled by Mara’s forensic audit team and presented by Arthur Vance’s firm was airtight. Victoria Vance, having attempted to trade stolen state data and manipulate public compliance records for corporate sabotage, stood defense-less at the podium. Marcus Sterling stood beside her, his head bowed in absolute defeat.
"The actions of the defendants represent a profound betrayal of professional ethics, institutional trust, and the rule of law," Judge Henderson stated, his voice ringing clear and authoritative through the silent courtroom. "Using fraudulent leaks to destroy an innocent professional’s career for personal and financial gain is a blight on our legal and corporate communities."
The gavel fell with a sharp, echoing crack.
"For conspiracy, wire fraud, and corporate sabotage, this court sentences Victoria Vance to thirty-six months in federal custody. Marcus Sterling is sentenced to twenty-four months, with full restitution mandated upon release."
Federal marshals stepped forward, clicking handcuffs into place and leading the disgraced conspirators away through the heavy oak doors.
Arthur Vance leaned over to Mara, who sat quietly in the front row alongside Julian. "Well, Mara. That’s official. The last loose end of the old regime has been tied up permanently."

Mara stood up, buttoning her blazer with a quiet, composed smile. "Good," she said softly. "Because I have a state compliance board meeting in an hour, and I prefer to focus entirely on building our future rather than cleaning up the past."
As they walked out of the federal courthouse into the bright spring sunshine, the cool breeze felt like a fresh beginning. The shadows were entirely gone, replaced by the brilliant light of a world restored to order.
