Chapter 15 - A Brighter Tomorrow

Back in Annapolis, the autumn leaves were beginning to turn once again, painting the historic town in brilliant shades of amber, crimson, and gold.
The front yard of Mara’s colonial home was bustling with laughter and music. White string lights were woven through the branches of the old oak trees, casting a warm, magical glow over the gathering. Family and close friends—including Sarah, Arthur Vance, and a handful of neighborhood families—chatted happily around long tables laden with food.
At the center of it all stood Mara and Julian, side by side under a simple floral arch on the sunlit lawn. There were no grand corporate announcements, no superficial displays of wealth, and no hidden agendas. It was an intimate, beautiful celebration of a new beginning—a ceremony sealing a partnership built on honesty, trust, and unconditional love.
Eli stood proudly beside them as the best man, wearing a sharp little bowtie and grinning from ear to ear as he held the velvet ring box in his hands.
"Do you, Mara, take Julian to be your lifelong partner, in joy and in peace?" the officiant asked gently.
Mara looked into Julian’s eyes, seeing a future stretching out before them that was bright, secure, and entirely real. She smiled, her voice clear and unwavering across the quiet garden.
"I do."
"And do you, Julian..."

As the rings were exchanged and the applause erupted from the gathered family, Eli cheered louder than anyone else, running forward to hug them both at once.
Mara looked out over the smiling faces of her family and friends, feeling the warm autumn breeze brush against her face. The storm was over. The past was buried. And as she kissed her new husband under the golden lights of their home, she knew with absolute certainty that her happily ever after had finally arrived.
