Chapter 14 - The Final Chapter Closed

In the federal correctional facility in Cumberland, the heavy steel doors buzzed open to signal the end of visiting hours. Grant Whitmore sat alone at a scarred wooden table in the visitors' room, staring down at his calloused hands.
The last four years had stripped away every layer of the illusion he had built. Without his title, his wealth, his sleek cars, or his expensive suits, he was forced to confront the wreckage of his own choices. Whitmore Health was now under entirely new leadership, completely divorced from his family name; the foundation he had manipulated was publicly audited and legally sound; and Rachel Palmer was nothing more than a bitter memory of a mistake that had cost him everything.
A correctional officer tapped gently on the partition. "Time's up, Whitmore. Back to the block."

Grant slowly stood up, nodding without a word. He didn't expect anyone to visit him. He hadn't received a letter or a phone call in over three years, and he knew he deserved the absolute silence that surrounded him. As he walked back down the long, sterile corridor, he caught a glimpse of his reflection in the reinforced glass window—a graying, humbled man who had traded the only treasure that truly mattered for a moment of vanity.
He walked into his cell, sat down on the narrow metal cot, and finally found a strange, quiet peace in accepting the truth: some mistakes could never be undone, but life would move forward whether he was part of it or not.
