Chapter 8 - The Showdown at the Estate

By 8:00 AM, the rain had cleared over Long Island, leaving the air cold and sharp as glass.
The main courtyard of the Sterling coastal estate—where Marcus’s team had redirected the children for safe storage—was surrounded by six black luxury sedans.
Senator Edward Montgomery, a powerful, silver-haired man of sixty-eight wearing a tailored navy overcoat, stood near the fountain, holding a heavy gold-topped walking cane. Beside him stood Victoria, her blonde hair disheveled, her expensive coat muddy at the hem, her face contorted in a mixture of rage and wild, untamed panic.
Ten armed private guards surrounded them, their weapons pointed at the estate’s heavy oak doors.
"JULIAN!" Senator Montgomery’s voice boomed across the marble terrace. "Step out here now! Don't make this any worse than it already is!"
The heavy oak doors swung open.
Julian walked out onto the stone steps. He wore no coat despite the morning chill. His hands were tucked casually into his trouser pockets, his posture completely relaxed, his eyes cold enough to freeze water.
Maya walked out right behind him, carrying four-year-old Noah in her arms. Behind her stood Clara, wrapped in a soft warm coat, holding Leo close against her side.
Victoria gasped, taking two steps back, her hands flying to her mouth. "No... no... it’s impossible..."
"Hello, Victoria," Clara said softly, her voice carrying clearly across the terrace. "You look like you’ve seen a ghost."
Senator Montgomery’s jaw tightened, his face turning dark red. "Victoria... what is the meaning of this?!"
"She was supposed to be dead!" Victoria shrieked, pointing a shaking, manicured finger at Clara. "Father, you said the facility was secure! You said she would never wake up!"
"Shut your mouth, Victoria!" Montgomery snarled through his teeth.
Julian took three slow steps down the terrace stairs, stopping ten feet away from the Senator’s armed guard line.
"It’s over, Edward," Julian said quietly. "The FBI has already raided St. Jude’s Hospital. Dr. Vance signed a full confession an hour ago. The wire transfers from your campaign fund to the long-term facility have been seized."
Montgomery sneered, raising his chin with the arrogant entitlement of a man who had controlled New York politics for thirty years. "You think a doctor’s confession can touch me, Julian? I own the State Prosecutor! I own the federal judges in this circuit! This is my city!"
"It was your city, Edward," Julian corrected calmly. "Until twenty minutes ago."
Julian reached into his pocket and pulled out a small black remote control. He pressed the button.
Across the terrace, the car radios in all six of Montgomery’s sedans suddenly burst into life, playing a live broadcast from WNYC News:
"...breaking news this morning as federal agents have executed an emergency arrest warrant for U.S. Senator Edward Montgomery in connection with high-level medical kidnapping, corporate fraud, and attempted murder. The U.S. Attorney’s office has confirmed that multiple grand jury indictments have been unsealed..."
Montgomery’s face drained of every drop of color. The gold cane in his hand began to tremble.
"Your political allies abandoned you the moment the federal warrants cleared, Edward," Julian said, his voice dropping into a dangerous whisper. "You have five seconds to order your men to drop their weapons. Or my security detail will end this right here on my lawn."
May you like
The Senator’s armed guards looked at each other, seeing the tactical laser sights of Marcus’s snipers dancing across their chests from the roofline above.
One by one, they dropped their weapons onto the gravel terrace.
