Chapter 5 - The Battle for the Falcone HeirThe heavy iron doors of the estate locked down instantly.

Landon’s reaction was terrifyingly swift. The gentle man who had just kissed Paige turned back into the lethal head of the Moretti family in a fraction of a second.

"Dominic," Landon barked orders. "Take Paige and Leo into the basement vault. Lock the reinforced doors from the inside. Do not open them for anyone except me."

"Landon, no!" Paige cried, grabbing his arm. "They came for me! Let me talk to them—"

"You belong to me now, Paige," Landon said, taking her face in his hands and pressing a fierce, protective kiss to her forehead. "And no one takes what is mine."

Down in the concrete vault beneath the estate, Paige held Leo tightly in her arms while the thud of heavy gunfire and shattering glass echoed from the floors above. Leo hid his face in her lap, but Paige didn't sing this time—she listened, her heart breaking at the thought of Landon fighting for her life.

After forty-five minutes of terrifying silence, the heavy steel vault door hissed and swung open.

Landon stood in the entryway. His charcoal jacket was gone, his white shirt sleeves rolled up, and a streak of soot marked his sharp jaw. But his eyes were clear, and he was standing tall.

"Is it over?" Paige whispered, tears spilling over her eyes.

"The Camorra leaders have been apprehended," Landon replied smoothly, walking over and kneeling before her. "Their syndicate in New York has been completely dismantled tonight. They will never threaten you, your family's legacy, or Leo ever again."

Paige dropped Leo’s hand and threw her arms around Landon’s neck, weeping against his chest. "You came back for us."

"I told you, Paige," Landon murmured, wrapping his broad arms around her waist. "My heart was ice until I heard you sing. I’m never letting you go."
