Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Commission

The room went completely silent, save for the ringing in my ears and the smell of gunpowder fill the cabin.

Vincent dropped the shotgun onto the floor, his heavy breathing ragged and desperate. He turned toward us, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on his daughter.

“Bella!” he roared, stumbling forward, dropping to his knees on the hardwood floor, pulling both Isabella and Ellie into a massive, trembling embrace.

“Daddy...” Isabella sobbed, burying her face into his blood-stained wool sweater, her small arms wrapping tightly around his neck. “Daddy, you came!”

“I’m here, baby,” Vincent wept openly, kissing the top of her head over and over again. “I’m here. I’m never leaving you again.”

Marco stepped through the ruined front entrance, holding a tactical assault rifle, his shoulder wrapped in heavy white bandages.

“Cicero is clear, Boss,” Marco reported, looking down at Luca’s body with deep disgust. “The Commission’s leadership surrendered thirty minutes ago when we presented the evidence from Sofia’s flash drive. Federal agents are seizing their assets right now.”

Vincent looked up at me from the floor, his dark eyes filled with an overwhelming, profound gratitude.

“You heard what she said, didn't you?” Vincent asked softly.

I nodded, tears streaming down my cheeks as I sat down on the floor beside them, pulling a crying Ellie into my lap. “She told me everything, Vincent. She saved us.”

Vincent reached out his large, calloused hand and covered mine.

“No, Maya,” Vincent said, looking at Ellie, then at me. “You gave her the courage to speak. You brought light back into this house when I was too blind to see the dark.”
