Chapter 15 - The Chase in Soho

They didn’t even make it three blocks.

As Graham and Elise hurried down a narrow, cobblestone alleyway toward their waiting car, the headlights of a black sedan snapped on at the end of the street, blinding them.

“Move,” Graham ordered, grabbing Elise’s hand and pulling her sharply into a branching side street.

Footsteps splashed heavy and fast behind them. Thorne’s fixers weren’t subtle.

Elise’s heart hammered in her chest, the adrenaline spiking, but her mind remained razor-sharp. “The drive is encrypted with a localized failsafe. If they get it from us and try to open it outside of my personal network, it will wipe itself.”

“I’d rather they just don’t get it,” Graham grunted, shoving open the heavy iron gate of an underground tube station.

They sprinted down the concrete stairs, the sound of their pursuers echoing off the tiled walls. Graham moved with the fluid, dangerous grace of a man who was used to fighting for everything he owned.

As a train roared into the station, its doors hissing open, Graham pulled Elise into the crowded car just as the doors began to slide shut.

Through the glass, Elise saw two men in dark coats stop on the platform, glaring as the train accelerated away.

Graham kept his arm securely around Elise’s waist, shielding her against the sway of the train. He looked down at her, his chest heaving slightly.

“You okay?” he asked.

Elise smiled, a fierce, reckless expression that made Graham’s pulse race for entirely different reasons. “I have the data, Graham. I’m better than okay.”
