Using the sixty million dollars recovered from the seized offshore accounts of Global Airways, Laura Vance and Arthur Vance Senior officially established the Silver Wings Foundation for Aviation Safety & Whistleblower Protectionâa one-hundred-million-dollar philanthropic endowment.
The foundation provided free independent technical safety audits, emergency legal defense for commercial pilots reporting mechanical defects, and full flight-academy scholarships for underprivileged young women across North America.
On a glorious Saturday morning in late spring, the foundation hosted the grand opening of the Commander Laura Vance Aviation Technology Center at Terceira International Airport in the Azoresâthe very airfield where Flight 418 had touched down on the knife's edge of survival.
