Chapter 9 - The Empty Room

The administrator's words hit me like a massive, suffocating physical blow to the chest.

"What do you mean she is not in her room?" I demanded, my voice shaking with raw, unconcealed terror.

She explained frantically that an unauthorized medical transport team had arrived an hour ago with a forged transfer order.

They had forcefully moved Hannah to an undisclosed psychiatric facility, claiming she was a severe danger to herself.

Patricia had initiated a terrifying backup plan to ensure Hannah disappeared permanently even if the kidnapping failed.

I handed Owen to the trusted police officer and sprinted out to the stolen pickup truck I had left at the curb.

I grabbed the burner phone and called Marcus, demanding he track the GPS signature of that specific private ambulance.

"They are heading toward the old, abandoned asylum on the northern ridge," Marcus informed me urgently.

I drove the heavy truck up the treacherous, unpaved mountain roads, tearing through thick mud and overgrown branches.

The decaying, Gothic structure of the abandoned asylum loomed menacingly against the dark, stormy sky.

I kicked the rusted front doors open and stepped into the pitch-black, moldy main hallway.

I heard the faint, muffled sound of a woman crying echoing from the basement level.

I ran down the crumbling stone steps, using the dim flashlight on the burner phone to guide my way.

I found Hannah strapped tightly to a rusted metal gurney in a cold, windowless observation room.

Two massive men dressed in fake orderly uniforms were preparing a large syringe filled with a dark, unknown liquid.

I did not hesitate for a single fraction of a second.

I charged into the room, driving my shoulder fiercely into the back of the man holding the deadly needle.

He crashed violently into the brick wall, dropping the syringe onto the concrete floor where it shattered instantly.

The second man pulled a hunting knife, swinging the sharp blade wildly toward my throat.

I ducked gracefully under his strike and delivered a devastating, brutal punch directly to his jaw.

He collapsed into a heap of unconscious dead weight, completely neutralized by the heavy blow.

I rushed to Hannah's side, frantically unbuckling the thick leather restraints binding her wrists and ankles.

She looked up at me, her beautiful eyes still clouded with confusion and deep, lingering fear.

I pulled out my phone and played the audio recording of Courtney explicitly confessing to the entire wicked conspiracy.

Hannah listened to the undeniable truth, and the terrifying wall of lies Patricia had built finally crumbled completely.

She threw her arms around my neck, sobbing uncontrollably into my shoulder as I held her incredibly tight.

I carried my exhausted, traumatized wife out of that dark nightmare and back into the safety of the daylight.

As we drove back down the mountain, the flashing red and blue lights of federal police cruisers passed us heading toward the asylum.

The nightmare was finally completely over, and those monsters could never hurt my family again.
