Chapter 7 - The Corrupt Judge

I stared at the forged adoption papers, my vision blurring with a mixture of pure rage and total panic.
Patricia had leveraged her vast wealth and corrupt connections to completely erase my parental rights in less than twenty-four hours.
The signature at the bottom of the document belonged to Judge Thomas Sterling, a notoriously ruthless family court magistrate.
I knew immediately that this was the exact same judge who attended Patricia's elite country club every single weekend.
They had orchestrated this entire legal kidnapping long before I ever left on my business trip.
I shoved the document into my pocket and searched the rest of the empty, immaculate cabin.
The closets were completely bare, and the fireplaces were stone cold.
Patricia and Courtney had already fled the state, and they had taken my innocent son with them.
I ran back to the stolen pickup truck and grabbed the burner phone Marcus had given me.
I dialed his number, begging him to use his emergency dispatch access to track Courtney's cellular location.
Marcus hesitated, knowing he could lose his entire medical career for violating federal privacy laws.
"They are going to disappear forever with my son, Marcus, please," I pleaded desperately into the receiver.
I heard the rapid clacking of a computer keyboard on the other end of the secure line.
"Her phone just pinged off a cellular tower near the international airport," Marcus finally revealed.
My blood ran completely cold as the horrifying reality of their escape plan crystallized in my mind.
They were not just fleeing the state; they were fleeing the entire country to a non-extradition jurisdiction.
I slammed my foot onto the gas pedal, pushing the heavy truck to its absolute mechanical limits.
I tore down the winding mountain roads, narrowly avoiding logging trucks and deep, fatal ravines.
I knew that if they boarded that international flight, I would never see my beautiful boy again.
I arrived at the sprawling airport terminal and abandoned the truck directly in the passenger drop-off lane.
I sprinted through the automatic sliding doors, frantically scanning the massive sea of bustling travelers.
The departure board flashed brightly above me, listing a direct flight to South America departing in exactly twenty minutes.
I shoved my way through the dense crowds, ignoring the angry shouts of security personnel trying to stop me.
I finally spotted them standing near the final boarding gate at the very end of the long concourse.
Patricia was holding Owen tightly against her chest, wearing a large sun hat and oversized designer sunglasses.
Courtney was handing their forged passports to the airline ticketing agent with a smug, victorious smile.
I screamed my son's name at the top of my lungs, charging toward the boarding gate like a wild animal.

Patricia turned around, her fake smile instantly transforming into a mask of pure, unadulterated evil.
She reached deep into her expensive designer handbag and pulled out a small, silver revolver.
