Chapter 10 - The Easter Sunrise

Exactly one year after that terrifying Easter Sunday, the morning sun rose over our little house in a brilliant display of gold, amber, and soft pink.

There were no white tents, no manicured lawns, no expensive imported champagne, and no cruel, arrogant men hiding behind family names.

Just a quiet porch, two rocking chairs, and the warm, steady breeze of a new spring morning.

Lily stepped out onto the porch holding two mugs of steaming coffee, handing one to me with a bright, radiant smile that reached all the way to her eyes. She wore a simple yellow sundress—a symbol of renewal, warmth, and a fresh beginning.

"Happy Easter, Dad," she said softly, sitting down in the rocking chair beside mine.

"Happy Easter, sweetheart," I replied, clinking my mug gently against hers.

We sat together in comfortable silence, watching the morning light stretch across the grass, listening to the birds sing their morning chorus from the tall trees lining the property.

The phone call that had changed everything felt like a lifetime ago—a distant nightmare from a world we had left entirely behind. We had walked through the fire, torn down the cages, and emerged on the other side into the bright, unyielding light of a peaceful, hard-won reality.

As I took a sip of my coffee, looking over at my daughter—strong, brilliant, safe, and truly free—I knew that no matter what tomorrow brought, our story had found its ultimate, beautiful destination.

We had made it home.
