Chapter 19 - THE RESTAURANT WHERE IT STARTED

They found Gabriel at Bellini’s.
Of course they did.
The same restaurant where Leo first reached toward Alina.
The same place where a dragon tattoo had turned her entire life sideways.
Gabriel sat in the last booth with fries and a Coke.
The manager recognized Alina’s description and quietly called.
Dante wanted six security men.
Alina allowed one outside.
Inside, she approached alone.
Gabriel looked up.
“You found me.”
“You used my old workplace.”
“I didn't know where else to go.”
She sat across from him.
“You thought disappearing would protect us?”
He looked down.
“Yes.”
Alina almost laughed.
“Congratulations. You have inherited the family disease.”
He frowned.
“What?”
“Every adult in our lives keeps deciding absence is protection.”
Gabriel pushed fries around.
“If the trust wasn't about me—”
“It is about you.”
“If the documents—”
“Are not your responsibility.”
“If I wasn't here, Elias wouldn't have—”
“No.”
Alina’s voice hardened.
“You do not become responsible for what adults did because they used your name while doing it.”
Gabriel looked at her.
“Then why did Mom—our mom—hide me?”
Alina felt the word our.
Still strange.
Still real.
“Because she was scared.”
“Was she right?”
“Sometimes.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“Yes, it is.”
Alina leaned forward.
“People can correctly see danger and still choose the wrong response.”
Gabriel absorbed that.
Dante entered only after Gabriel agreed.
He sat at the edge of the booth.
For several seconds nobody spoke.
Then Gabriel asked:
“Are you going to put me in some Rosselli mansion?”
“No.”
“Give me bodyguards?”
“Only if a current risk assessment says you need them.”
“Make me change my name?”
“No.”
“Make me meet Paolo?”
“No.”
Gabriel looked suspicious.
“What do you want?”
Dante answered:
“For the adults to stop using your life as proof of what they meant to do.”
Gabriel stared.
Then:
“That sounds like Lena.”
“She is ruining me.”
Alina rolled her eyes.
Gabriel almost smiled.
The legal resolution took months.
Alina cooperated fully.
Forensic records proved she had not created the shell companies or controlled transactions.
Elias admitted the forged signatures.
Rosa’s earlier involvement was documented.
The prosecutor treated Alina as witness, not defendant.
Elias negotiated charges involving fraud and unauthorized trust activity.
Some funds he moved had genuinely protected Gabriel.
That affected sentencing.
It did not erase the crimes.
Paolo testified.
So did Dante.
No violence.
No disappearing witnesses.
No Rosselli solutions.
Just records.
Gabriel stayed with Mara.
Not Dante.
Not Alina.
His choice.
Alina gained visitation gradually.
Siblinghood was not imposed because DNA existed.
Then Paolo asked Gabriel to spend one weekend with him.
Gabriel said:
“Maybe later.”
Paolo answered:
“Okay.”
Small miracle.
The trust was restructured.
Leo removed completely as contingent beneficiary.
Gabriel’s assets moved under independent fiduciary management.
No Rosselli relative controlled them.
Dante signed the papers.
Then the attorney handed Alina one last file recovered from Rosa’s pendant.
A second video.
Recorded later than the first.
Rosa looked weaker.
She said:
“Lena, there is one thing I lied about that has nothing to do with Gabriel.”
Alina closed her eyes.
“Of course.”
On screen, Rosa almost smiled.
Then said:
“The night I warned you about the dragon tattoo, I already knew you had met Dante.”
Alina froze.
Rosa continued.
May you like
“And I knew Leo would reach for you.”
