Chapter 10 - The Dinner We Tried Again

Two years after the glass of water, we held another family dinner.

Not at my parents' mansion.

That house belonged to someone else.

We gathered at our home.

Clara sat comfortably near the head of the table.

Sophie sat in a booster seat beside her.

Mom brought dessert.

Vanessa brought wine.

Dad brought flowers.

Nobody argued about chairs.

At one point, Sophie knocked over her water.

Everyone froze.

Then Vanessa started laughing.

Not cruelly.

She grabbed napkins.

“Apparently clumsiness runs in the family.”

Clara looked at her.

For half a second, I worried.

Then Clara laughed.

So did Mom.

Even Dad.

A memory that once carried pain had lost some of its power.

That was when I understood healing wasn't forgetting.

May you like

It was remembering without bleeding.
