Chapter 7 - THE PRESS CONFERENCEThe flashbulbs in the grand ballroom of the Four Seasons Chicago were so blinding they looked like continuous lightning.

Over three hundred journalists, financial reporters, and tech bloggers crammed into the room, their microphones clustered thick as a forest on the mahogany podium. For forty--eight hours, the internet had been melting down over the Aspen wedding disaster: the twenty-billion-dollar aborted merger, the arrest of Arthur Sterling for financial fraud, and the sudden, dramatic exile of tech matriarch Eleanor Harden.
The heavy side door clicked open.
Daniel walked in first, wearing a crisp dark suit without a tie, looking calm, lethal, and completely untouchable.
He didn't walk alone.
He held my hand in his right hand, while Betty and Mia skipped beside him, each holding one of his fingers, entirely unbothered by the flashing lights and shouting reporters.
Daniel stepped up to the podium, adjusted the microphone, and raised his free hand. The room fell into an instant, absolute hush.
"Good morning," Daniel said, his voice steady and resonant, echoing through the massive hall and broadcasting live to tens of millions of viewers worldwide. "I called this press conference not to discuss Harden Systems' quarterly earnings, and not to address the dissolution of the Sterling Global partnership."
He paused, looking down briefly at Betty and Mia, who were currently examining their shiny black patent-leather shoes with immense fascination.
"Eight years ago," Daniel continued, his eyes locking onto the camera lenses, "a massive fraud was perpetrated against my family. A deliberate, coordinated campaign of lies and coercion was deployed to drive away the woman I loved and hide the existence of my twin daughters."
A collective gasp rippled through the press corps. Reporters began typing furiously, their keyboards clicking like a swarm of cicadas.
"As of this morning," Daniel’s voice dropped into a cold, dangerous register, "Eleanor Harden has been permanently removed from the board of directors of Harden Systems, stripped of all executive privileges, and barred from any association with my family, my company, or my estate. Any publication or entity that prints further falsehoods regarding my wife, Rachel Miller, or my daughters will face immediate, aggressive litigation from our legal team."
A hand shot up in the front row. A reporter from the Wall Street Journal shouted, "Mr. Harden! Does this mean Harden Systems is facing a liquidity crisis without the Sterling partnership?"
Daniel offered a cold, razor-sharp smile.
"Sterling Global is currently undergoing federal asset seizure for embezzlement and wire fraud," Daniel replied smoothly. "Harden Systems closed three major acquisitions this morning alone. Our valuation is up twelve percent since market open. My company has never been stronger. And my family has never been more complete."
He turned his head, looking down at me with a look so nakedly tender and fierce that every camera in the room frantically pivoted to capture the moment.
"Mr. Harden! One last question!" another reporter yelled. "What’s next for you?"
Daniel leaned into the microphone, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across his face—the smile his daughters had inherited, the smile that belonged to a man who had finally won the only war that mattered.

"What's next," Daniel said, wrapping his arm securely around my shoulders and pulling Betty and Mia close, "is a very long vacation in Colorado. No phones. No boardrooms. Just pancakes, ponies, and a lifetime of making up for lost time."
He turned away from the blinding lights, walking off the stage with his family, leaving the world behind them in awe.
