Chapter 19 - THE INVITATION FROM GENEVAThe morning post arrived at 9:00 AM sharp, delivered by our local courier who drove a beat-up red pickup truck that rattled like a tin can against the gravel driveway.

Daniel sorted through the small stack of envelopes while sitting at the kitchen island, tossing junk mail into the recycling bin with practiced efficiency. Suddenly, his movements stopped.

He pulled out a heavy, cream-colored envelope bearing no return address, stamped with an international postal mark from Geneva, Switzerland. The script on the front was handwritten in neat, elegant calligraphy: To the Office of the Executive Board and Family of Daniel Harden.

"What is it?" I asked, setting down a plate of sliced fruit for the girls, who were already immersed in a noisy debate about whether a robot could be programmed to make pancakes.

Daniel slit the top of the envelope with a silver butter knife, slid out a thick card, and read the contents silently. His slate-gray eyes narrowed slightly, a thoughtful shadow passing over his features.

"It's not from a corporate rival," Daniel said, looking up at me. "And it’s not from the courts."

"Then who?"

"The International Consortium of Tech Ethics and Innovation," Daniel read aloud. "They’re hosting their annual symposium in Geneva next month. They want me to deliver the keynote address on open-source digital safety and child data protection protocols—the exact framework we built through the foundation."

I walked over, reading over his shoulder. The invitation wasn't just addressed to him; it formally invited both of us, recognizing my role as Vice Chair of the Ethics Committee.

"Geneva," I murmured, a faint smile touching my lips. "Europe in the spring."

"More importantly," Daniel added, looking down at the bottom of the letter, "they’ve invited Betty and Mia to present their youth coding project at the junior innovation showcase."

Across the kitchen, the debate over pancake-making robots instantly ceased. Two pairs of wide, identical gray eyes whipped around to lock onto Daniel.

"Switzerland?" Betty shrieked, dropping her fork with a loud clatter. "Like, where they make the chocolate and the secret mountain vaults?"

"Switzerland," Daniel confirmed, a wide, genuine grin breaking across his face. "If you two promise not to reprogram the lawnmower to chase me."

"Deal!" Mia shouted, vaulting off her chair and running over to wrap her arms around Daniel’s neck.

I looked at the invitation in Daniel’s hand, then out the window toward the towering peaks of the Rockies. The world was opening up, not through corporate conquest or legal battles, but through the simple, beautiful legacy of what we had built together.
