Chapter 5 - Rebuilding the Foundation

Monday morning at Caldwell Technologies headquarters in downtown Hartford was charged with a different kind of energy.
The corporate executive suite on the top floor felt lighter, cleaner, and entirely purged of the suffocating pretension that Claire Holloway had brought into Ethan’s professional life.
Ethan sat behind his expansive glass desk, reviewing quarterly growth reports, when his chief of staff, Marcus Vance, knocked twice and stepped into the office.
"Morning, boss. Word around the high-society circles is traveling fast. Half the country clubs in Connecticut are still buzzing about the wedding cancellation."
Ethan didn't look up from his tablet. "Let them buzz. Is the legal separation finalized?"
"Signed and sealed this morning," Marcus nodded, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "Richard Holloway’s legal team didn't even try to contest it. They knew if your PR department released the internal staff audit logs to the press, Holloway Industries' stock would take a twenty-point hit before the opening bell."
"Good. I want zero further contact with that family," Ethan said coldly. "How are the restructuring audits coming along for the other subsidiary properties?"
"All underway. Every single residential property and corporate guesthouse is currently being audited for labor compliance and facility standards," Marcus replied, dropping a thick black binder onto the desk. "And... I checked with Thomas Bell. The new staff welfare policies you mandated are fully implemented at the mansion."
Ethan closed his tablet and leaned back in his leather chair. "And Hannah?"
"She called the office an hour ago," Marcus smiled warmly. "She accepted the position. She’ll be reporting back to the estate next Monday to begin overseeing the staff restructuring."
A genuine, relaxed smile finally touched Ethan’s face. "Tell Thomas to have her new office in the main house prepared by Friday. The north wing study."
May you like
"The north wing study?" Marcus raised an eyebrow in surprise. "That was Miss Holloway’s private yoga and planning room."
"Exactly," Ethan said smoothly. "Time to clear out the old energy and make room for something functional."
