Chapter 10 - THE LANGUAGE OF LOVE

Six months later.
The early summer sun shone brightly over a breathtaking lakefront estate in Lake Forest, Illinois. The dark, violence-filled days of the Costello-Moretti war were officially over; Antonio Moretti’s syndicate had been completely dismantled, its leaders incarcerated or fled, leaving Silas Costello in total, uncontested control of the region's logistics network.
But inside the bright, open-concept sunroom of the lakehouse, no weapons were visible.
Instead, the large wooden dining table was covered in colorful children's drawing books, sign language flashcards, and plates of fresh fruit.
Mateo, wearing a bright red summer shirt, was laughing silently as he chased a golden retriever puppy across the green lawn outside the floor-to-ceiling glass doors. He wore a sleek, state-of-the-art bone-conduction hearing device behind his ear—a recent medical advance that allowed him to feel deep sound vibrations, though he still primarily communicated through sign language.
Inside the room, Khloe stood near the window, holding a glass of iced tea, watching the boy play.
She no longer wore a flight attendant’s uniform. She was now the Director of the Sarah Gallagher Foundation for Deaf Children—a multi-million-dollar charitable initiative funded entirely by Silas to provide ASL education, assistive technology, and support for families with deaf infants across the country.
A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped gently around her waist from behind.
Silas pulled her close against his chest, resting his chin on her shoulder, his breath warm against her neck.
"What are you thinking about?" Silas murmured softly.
"About the night on the jet," Khloe smiled, leaning back against his solid chest. "If someone had told me a year ago that a terrifying mafia boss would become the gentlest man I know, I would have called them crazy."
Silas chuckled low in his throat—a warm, rich sound that echoed against her back.
He turned her around gently in his arms, looking down into her blue eyes with an expression of profound, eternal devotion.
"I spent forty years living in a world full of noise, Khloe," Silas said softly, his voice trembling with genuine emotion. "Shouting commands, hearing gunfire, listening to lies. I thought power was about making people listen to you."
He reached up, gently tracing the line of her jaw with his long fingers.
"Then you stepped onto my plane," Silas continued, "and you showed me that real power is the ability to listen to those who have no voice."
From the lawn outside, Mateo saw them standing together through the glass doors.
The little boy ran up to the sunroom door, sliding it open, and tapped his father’s leg.
Silas and Khloe looked down.
Mateo looked up at both of them, his face radiant with pure, unbridled joy. With deliberate, beautiful precision, the boy raised his hands and executed a sequence of signs:
Papa. Khloe. Family. Love. Forever.
Silas dropped to one knee on the floor, opening his arms wide. Mateo jumped into his chest, laughing delightedly.
Silas looked up at Khloe, extending his hand out to her. "Come here, Khloe. Join our family."
Khloe smiled, tears of pure happiness glittering in her eyes. She dropped to her knees beside them, sliding her arms around Silas’s neck and pressing Mateo close between them.

And right there, under the warm Midwest sun, Silas raised his hand and signed back to his son and the woman who had saved them both:
Always. Forever. Home.
