Chapter 6 - The Sabotage

Marcus did not wait. Furious at Evelyn's defiance, he leaked a blind item to a major gossip syndicate. Rumors began swirling online about a high-profile clean-energy CEO hiding a secret family. Paparazzi began swarming Evelyn's modest neighborhood, trying to get photos of the mysterious children. Thanks to Julian's quick thinking, the house was empty.

Inside the safety of the estate, Julian was orchestrating a massive corporate counterattack. He sat at his dining room table, surrounded by laptops and files, systematically buying up the debt of Marcus's parent company through anonymous shell corporations. Evelyn watched him work from the doorway. It was a stark reminder of the man she had loved—brilliant, protective, and relentless.

During a break in the chaos, Julian walked into the living room where Evelyn was reading a story to the girls. Sophie crawled onto Julian's lap, looking up at him with sleepy eyes. Why are you always working on your computer? she asked.

Julian froze, looking down at his daughter. He gently brushed her dark hair back. Because I am trying to fix a mistake I made a long time ago, he whispered. And I want to make sure nobody ever bothers you or your sisters.

Sophie smiled and rested her head against his chest. You are a nice friend, Julian.

Julian looked over at Evelyn, a single tear slipping down his cheek. The guilt was eating him alive. He had billions of dollars, but the only currency he cared about now was the trust of the woman sitting across from him, and the love of the three little girls who did not even know he was their father.
