Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later.

The grand dining room of Vale Manor was filled with light, laughter, and the rich scent of roasting herbs and fresh flowers.

The heavy, dark curtains that had covered the high arching windows for two decades had been pulled back, allowing the golden afternoon sun to flood every corner of the vast room.

At the head of the massive mahogany table sat Eleanor Vale, looking healthier and happier than she had in thirty years.

To her right sat Adrian, scrolling through a financial report on his tablet before catching his grandmother's sharp glare and quickly putting the device away with an apologetic grin.

And at the center of the room, carrying a large silver tray filled with freshly baked pastries, was Maya.

She was wearing a casual cream sweater and jeans, her brown hair tied back loosely—looking remarkably like the waitress who had worked double shifts downtown six months ago, yet carrying an unmistakable air of confidence and quiet authority.

"Maya, dear," Eleanor called out with a warm smile. "You don't need to serve the food yourself. We have a full estate staff now."

"I like doing it, Grandmother," Maya laughed, setting the silver tray down in the center of the table and taking her seat beside Adrian. "It keeps me grounded. Besides, your head chef doesn't know how to make my mother's cinnamon rolls."

"She has a point, Grandmother," Adrian admitted, snatching a warm pastry from the tray. "These are significantly better than anything from the club."

They ate together in comfortable, warm silence—a stark contrast to the cold, rigid formality that had governed the Vale family for half a century.

After lunch, Maya walked out onto the grand stone balcony overlooking the estate's sprawling gardens.

The air was crisp and clear. In the distance, the iron gates of the estate stood wide open, allowing visitors and staff to come and go freely.

Adrian stepped out onto the balcony behind her, holding two cups of hot coffee. He handed one to her, leaning his elbow against the stone balustrade.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked softly.

Maya took a slow sip of her coffee, looking out over the sunlit estate.

"I was thinking about the night we met," Maya said, a small smile touching her lips. "I was so terrified. I thought my life was ending because a billionaire dropped her champagne glass."

"And now?" Adrian asked, looking at her with deep brotherly affection.

Maya reached up, touching the silver teardrop necklace hanging securely around her neck.

She opened the tiny hidden compartment inside the pendant. Where the gold key had once rested, there was now a tiny, high-definition photograph of her mother, Clara, smiling brightly on a sunlit beach.

"Now," Maya said, her voice filled with absolute clarity, strength, and joy, "I know my life was just beginning."

She looked up at the bright blue sky, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face, knowing that the ghosts of the past had finally been laid to rest, and the Vale name was finally free.
