Chapter 7 - The Last Legacy

One year later. October 2027.
The autumn wind rustled the golden leaves canopying the quiet, private cemetery on the hills of Lake Forest, overlooking the calm waters of the lake.
Nora stood before a pristine white marble headstone carved with elegant gold lettering:
CLARA STERLING-WHITCOMB 1975 – 2011 BELOVED MOTHER, BELOVED VISIONARY "IN THE DARKEST NIGHT, THE TRUTH IS A LIGHT THAT CANNOT BE EXTINGUISHED."
Nora wore a long charcoal wool coat, laying a large bouquet of fresh white roses against the base of the marble headstone.
Dante stood two steps behind her, holding the hand of a small, three-year-old girl with dark curls and striking grey eyes—little Clara, whom they had adopted through the city's legal protective agency six months prior.
"We did it, Mom," Nora whispered softly to the autumn breeze. "The ports are safe. The trust is restored. And Richard will spend the rest of his days behind bars where he belongs."
She turned around, looking at Dante and little Clara playing with a fallen golden leaf on the grass.
The shadow that had hung over her life for twenty-five years was completely gone, replaced by the brilliant, unshakable warmth of a family built on love, loyalty, and absolute protection.
Nora walked over to them, taking Dante’s arm and lifting little Clara into her left arm—the arm that Richard had once tried to destroy, now strong, restored, and holding everything that mattered.
Dante wrapped his arm around Nora’s shoulders, kissing the top of her head as they began walking back down the quiet stone path toward their waiting car.
"Where to now, Mrs. Russo?" Dante asked softly with a smile.

Nora looked back one last time at the golden hills, then looked up into the eyes of the man who had answered her call in her darkest hour.
"Home, Dante," Nora smiled, her heart full, quiet, and completely at peace. "Take us home."
