Chapter 5 - The Dawn of a New Empire

Two weeks after the failed raid, the underworld of the East Coast experienced a seismic shift.
Dominic and his rogue crew were systematically rounded up by Vincent’s loyal capos, stripped of their rank, and permanently banished from the city under pain of death. The Russian syndicate, realizing that Vincent Corvino was far more dangerous in a wheelchair than any rival was on two feet, signed a total non-aggression pact, surrendering all claims to the Brooklyn docks.
The Corvino estate was fully restored, its security doubled, but its internal culture completely transformed.
On a warm afternoon in early spring, the grand courtyard of the estate was bathed in golden sunlight.
A massive mahogany dining table had been set under the shade of the flowering cherry blossom trees. Sitting around the table were all six regional capos, their wives, and the senior directors of the Corvino shipping lines.
At the head of the table sat Vincent Corvino.
He wore a tailored dark gray suit, his hair neatly styled, his posture commanding and powerful. Beside his high-backed chair stood his custom wheelchair—a tool he no longer viewed as a tomb, but simply as a seat of power.
Sitting directly at his right hand—wearing an elegant, deep navy silk dress that highlighted her warm eyes and grace—was Tessa.
Vincent picked up his crystal wine glass, looking around the table at the men who now served him with genuine reverence and absolute loyalty.
"Gentlemen," Vincent said, his deep, gravelly voice carrying clearly through the sunny courtyard. "Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for our organization. We are transitioning entirely out of street extortion and into legitimate maritime logistics and green energy transport."
The capos nodded in unanimous agreement.
Vincent turned his head, looking down at Tessa. His expression softened instantly, the cold Don vanishing, replaced by a man looking at his soulmate.
He reached out, taking her soft hand into his large, calloused palm, raising it to his lips to press a tender kiss against her knuckles.
"And lastly," Vincent announced, his eyes shining with profound emotion, "I want to introduce you to the future director of the Corvino Foundation for Spinal Injury and Medical Relief... my fiancée, Tessa Vance."
The entire table erupted into warm, genuine applause. The capos raised their glasses high in respect, smiling warmly at the young woman who had not only saved their boss’s life, but had given him back his humanity.
Tessa blushed slightly, leaning over to whisper into Vincent’s ear. "Fiancée? You haven't officially asked me yet, Mr. Corvino."
Vincent smiled—a radiant, breathtaking smile that reached his dark eyes—and pulled a velvet box from his jacket pocket. Inside sat a simple, stunning platinum ring set with a brilliant sapphire that matched her eyes.
"Tessa," Vincent whispered, his voice thick with deep, unshakeable love. "Will you do me the honor of sitting by my side for the rest of my life?"
May you like
Tessa looked at the ring, then into the eyes of the powerful, noble man who loved her with every fiber of his heart.
"Yes, Vincent," she whispered, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes. "A thousand times yes."
