Chapter 4 - The Raid on the Laguna Penthouse

While the guests in the Anaheim community center were reeling in shock, the secondary phase of Arthur Vanceâs legal strike force was descending upon the coast of Laguna Beach.
At 1:15 p.m., three unmarked black SUVs escorted by two marked Laguna Beach Police cruisers pulled up to the gated entrance of the Seaview Luxury Residences on Pacific Coast Highway.
Special Agent Marcus Cole of the FBI Major Financial Crimes Task Force stepped out of the lead vehicle, holding thirty pages of certified federal seizure warrants signed by Chief Judge Eleanor Bradley.
Accompanied by two armed federal compliance marshals, Agent Cole entered the private penthouse elevator, ascending to the fourteenth floor.
The elevator doors parted directly into an ultra-modern, four-thousand-square-foot oceanfront residence with panoramic views of the Pacific.
Sitting on an imported white Italian leather sectional was thirty-two-year-old Vanessa Croftâwearing a designer silk robe, sipping iced matcha while reviewing luxury shopping catalogs on her tablet.
Around the room sat twenty unopened shopping bags from Rodeo Drive, four cases of vintage champagne, and two sets of custom titanium golf clubs bearing Brandonâs engraved initials.
BOOM!
"FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT! DO NOT MOVE!"
Agent Cole and his tactical team swarmed the living room in silent, clinical precision.
Vanessa leaped from the sofa, knocking her drink across the white marble floor, shrieking in pure, unadulterated terror. "What is this?! Who are you?! This is private property!"
"Sit down, Miss Croft," Agent Cole commanded, flashing his gold credential shield. "Under federal seizure docket 908-Alpha, this residence, all vehicles in the garage, and all personal property purchased via Horizon Crest Logistics are under immediate sovereign federal forfeiture."
"Thatâs impossible!" Vanessa screamed, her voice shaking. "Brandon Vance leased this apartment for me! Heâs the managing director of Vance Capital!"
"Brandon Vance is currently being detained in Anaheim for grand fiduciary embezzlement and interstate wire fraud," Agent Cole replied with chilling, clinical calm. "And the credit card used to pay the twelve-thousand-dollar monthly lease on this penthouse belonged to his wife, Gwen Albright-Vance."
Two female federal marshals stepped forward, unhooking heavy carbon-steel transport handcuffs from their tactical belts.
CLICK. CLACK.
The steel ratchets locked around Vanessaâs wrists behind her back.
From the master bedroom closet, marshals wheeled out three heavy rolling trunks filled with designer jewelry, bearer bonds, and an unencrypted external hard drive containing Brandonâs secondary ledger of offshore banking routes in Belize and Zurich.
Vanessa collapsed onto the floorboards, weeping in raw, ruined hysterics as her manufactured luxury lifestyle dissolved into ash.
"Where is Brandon?!" she sobbed.

Agent Cole looked down at her with pitiless detachment.
"Mr. Vance is currently explaining his budget to the United States Attorney."
