Chapter 13 - The Discovery of the $120M Nevada Syndicate

While Heather shrieked in terror and dropped her smartphone onto the limestone tiles, two federal marshals moved in, pinning Harrisonâs arms behind his back.
CLICK. CLACK.
The heavy carbon-steel transport shackles locked around Harrison's wrists with bone-jarring finality.
"You can't do this!" Harrison roared, his face purpling as he thrashed against the marshals' grip. "I am a senior partner of an accredited law firm in San Diego! I have immunity under state civil litigation privileges!"
"Your firm was placed under emergency federal receivership at 6:00 a.m. today, Harrison," Deputy Attorney General Victoria Sterling replied, pulling an unredacted federal indictment from her briefcase.
She opened the master evidence ledger on the patio table:
THE VANCE-REED SHADOW SYNDICATE AUDIT (CASE 914-KAPPA):
The Siphon: Systematic concealment of $120,400,000.00 in secondary offshore trusts registered in Reno and the Cook Islands (Apex Crestline Holdings LLC).
The Prison Pipeline: Intercepted telecommunications proving Harrison Vance-Reed coordinated with Brandon Vance inside FCI Mendota to liquidate Albright real estate equities through fabricated probate defaults.
The Retaliation Contract: Digital forensic records showing Heather Vance wired eighty thousand dollars to a digital hacking collective to corrupt Albright Holdingsâ corporate tax registries.
Heather collapsed onto her knees on the stone steps, weeping in raw, ruined hysterics, her designer jacket dragging through the dirt. "Uncle Harrison swore it was legal! He told me Brandon was going to get early release if we paid off the restitution debts!"
Arthur Vance Senior stepped down the stairs, stopping two feet from Harrison.
"Brandon Vance did not act alone eight years ago, did he, Harrison?" Arthur asked softly, every word razor-sharp as surgical diamond. "You gave him the shell templates. You taught him how to falsify notarial instruments. And when Gwen exposed the fraud, you thought an eighty-year-old family ghost could scare her into surrendering her father's empire."
Arthur looked at the sheriffâs deputies. "Take them to the metropolitan holding facility in downtown Los Angeles. Hold them without bail under federal racketeering protocols."

As the patrol cruisers backed down the long driveway with their sirens howling, Hank Vance turned to me, his slate-gray eyes holding a fierce, protective warmth.
"The San Diego offices are being breached right now, Gwen," Hank said. "Let's go ensure they don't shred a single file."
