Chapter 15 - The Emergency Hearing in the Central District

At 2:30 p.m. that afternoon, Courtroom 8B of the Edward R. Roybal Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles was packed to capacity with corporate litigators, municipal property trustees, and financial reporters.

Chief United States District Judge Eleanor Bradley took the elevated bench, looking down upon the defense table where Harrison Vance-Reed, Bradley Vance-Croft, and Heather Vance sat dressed in drab orange federal detention jumpsuits, their wrists and ankles chained to the floor rings.

Standing at the petitioner’s lectern, dressed in an immaculate bespoke three-piece midnight-blue Italian wool silk pantsuit, her posture commanding, straight, and radiating absolute sovereign power, was myself, Gwen Albright.

Beside me stood Arthur Vance Senior, his silver-headed cane resting against the mahogany rail.

Arthur Vance Senior stepped forward, presenting the finalized seventy-gigabyte forensic evidence dossier:

THE VANCE SOVEREIGN FORECLOSURE AUDIT (EXHIBIT A):

Phase 1 (The Criminal Conspiracy): Authenticated digital recordings proving Harrison and Heather Vance conspired to forge Delaware judicial seals to extort $45,000,000.00 from Albright Holdings.

Phase 2 (The Transnational Siphon): Decrypted banking telemetry confirming the seizure of $120,400,000.00 in hidden syndicate reserves from Swiss and Cook Islands accounts.

Phase 3 (The Sovereign Lineal Decree): Ratified chancery orders confirming that all remaining corporate assets, real estate titles, and partnership equity of Vance, Croft & Sterling are forfeited permanently and transferred to the Gwen Albright Foundation for Fiduciary Preservation.

Judge Eleanor Bradley slammed her heavy oak gavel down with a sharp, resonant CRACK.

"In the matter of Harrison Vance-Reed, Bradley Vance-Croft, and Heather Vance," Judge Bradley announced, her authoritative voice commanding total silence across the courtroom. "This court finds overwhelming evidence of aggravated federal racketeering, transnational money laundering, and subornation of criminal forgery. The emergency forfeiture orders are ratified in full. The defendants are remanded to the Federal Correctional Institution in Mendota without bail."

BANG.

The sound of the heavy wooden gavel struck the bench like a closing iron tombstone.

Heather broke down into ragged, silent wails, burying her cuffed face in her hands.

Harrison sat paralyzed, his leathery face sagging into gaunt ruin, realizing that his sixty-year dynasty of polished entitlement was permanently dead.

Arthur Vance Senior turned to Hank and me with a deep, proud smile, resting his hand over my shoulder.

"The ledgers are clean, Gwen," Arthur whispered softly. "The last shadow has burned away."
