Chapter 8 - UNMASKING THE DECEIT

The silence in the grand ballroom was deafening.
Reid took an unsteady step forward, his eyes wide with utter disbelief, his chest heaving. "Claire... you? You are Vanguard?"
"For six years, Reid, you convinced yourself that you were building an empire alone," I said, looking directly into his eyes with a calm, penetrating gaze that cut through all his defenses. "You forgot that every technological breakthrough, every crucial licensing credit, and the very foundation of your cloud platform originated from the Sterling family archives."
"This is an outrage!" Julian Vance stepped forward from the VIP lounge, his voice booming with forced confidence. "This is a conflict of interest! Ashford Global is insolvent, and my group holds the senior debt instruments. We demand an immediate foreclosure!"
I turned slowly toward Julian, offering a faint, cold smile. "I'm glad you brought up your debt instruments, Mr. Vance."
With a subtle nod to Arthur, the giant multimedia screens behind the stage flickered to life.
Instead of corporate presentation slides, the screens displayed high-resolution financial wire logs, encrypted communications, and certified bank transcripts connecting Julian Vance’s offshore shell companies directly to personal accounts held by Marissa Blake.
A collective uproar broke out among the journalists.
"For the past four months," I announced to the room, "Ms. Blake has been actively transferring confidential Ashford Global source code and pre-market earnings forecasts to Julian Vance in exchange for a twelve-percent carried interest in his overseas hedge fund. This constitutes federal corporate espionage, insider trading, and grand larceny."
Marissa turned as white as a sheet, backing away toward the exit, only to be immediately intercepted by two plainclothes federal investigators who had been waiting quietly by the perimeter.
"Reid... Reid, listen to me, they're lying! It was Julian’s idea!" Marissa shrieked, her voice echoing in panic as the investigators produced federal warrants. "You have to protect me!"
Reid didn't even turn his head. He stood frozen, staring at the screens, watching the humiliating reality of his life laid bare before the entire world. The woman he had flaunted as his triumph had sold him out for pennies, while the woman he had discarded as a warm-up held the power of life and death over his entire existence.
Julian Vance attempted to slip out the side entrance, but board security officers stepped in front of him.

"Your debt notes have been fully purchased at face value by Sterling-Vanguard as of four o'clock this afternoon, Julian," Arthur Vance announced into the secondary microphone. "You no longer have any standing in this room. You are officially dismissed."
