Chapter 6 - A DOUBLE MIRACLE BORN IN SECRET

On a quiet Tuesday morning in early spring, inside a private maternity wing at Massachusetts General Hospital, my world changed forever.
After twelve hours of labor, surrounded by world-class doctors and Arthur Vance waiting anxiously in the family lounge, my twins entered the world with strong, healthy cries that filled the sunlit room.
Leo Ashford Sterling was born first, weighing six pounds and eight ounces, possessing his father’s dark, wavy hair and strong jawline. Five minutes later, his sister, Grace Ashford Sterling, arrived—delicate, with wide, bright gray eyes that looked up at me with infinite curiosity.
When the nurse placed both babies against my chest, the exhausting journey of the past nine months melted into an overwhelming wave of gratitude and fierce maternal love.
"They are magnificent, Claire," Arthur whispered as he walked into the recovery room, holding a bouquet of fresh white lilies. "Healthy, perfect, and completely protected."
"Everything we do from this moment on is for them, Arthur," I replied, gently kissing Leo’s forehead and smoothing the soft blanket around Grace. "Their father traded their legacy for cheap applause. I will make sure they inherit an empire built on integrity."
"Speaking of Reid," Arthur said, his tone turning grave as he pulled a tablet from his briefcase. "The Ashford Global board of directors held an emergency vote two hours ago. Julian Vance initiated his short attack on the pre-IPO notes. Ashford Global’s stock valuation collapsed by forty-two percent in morning trading."
I looked at the screen. Headlines from major financial networks flashed across the news feed:
ASHFORD GLOBAL ON THE BRINK: TECH GIANT ACCUSED OF IP FRAUD AS WEDDING OF THE CENTURY APPROACHES.
CEO REID ASHFORD FACES BOARD REMOVAL.
"The board has issued an ultimatum," Arthur continued. "They are demanding that Reid present the majority owner of Sterling-Vanguard Holdings at the annual Metropolitan Global Tech Gala in New York this Friday, or they will accept Julian Vance’s hostile takeover bid and remove Reid as CEO."
"Does Reid know who owns Sterling-Vanguard yet?" I asked, looking down at my daughter’s tiny fingers wrapping around my index finger.
"No," Arthur smiled faintly. "He assumes it's managed by an anonymous Swiss private equity syndicate. He has sent seven desperate acquisition offers to our blind trust in Zurich, offering up to seventy percent of his personal equity just to secure the license."
"Instruct our Swiss representatives to accept the invitation to the Metropolitan Gala," I said calmly, meeting Arthur’s gaze. "Tell the board that the principal shareholder of Vanguard will attend in person to deliver the final decision on the company's future."
"Are you ready for this, Claire?" Arthur asked gently. "It has only been three days since the birth."
I looked at my twins resting peacefully in their bassinets, wrapped in the warmest cashmere blankets, safe from the storm outside.

"I have spent nine months preparing for this moment, Arthur," I said, a serene, unshakable smile gracing my lips. "It's time to show Reid Ashford exactly what he gave away."
