Chapter 8 - The Trial and the Final Reckoning
The trial of the St. Jude's Trafficking Syndicate lasted three weeks, but the verdict was never in doubt.
With the unassailable DNA evidence, the recovered hospital logs, and the financial paper trail provided by Marchetti Enterprises, Dr. Julian Harrison and Victor Moretti were convicted on all counts, including federal child trafficking, kidnapping, fraud, and attempted murder.
Dr. Harrison was sentenced to forty-five years in maximum-security federal prison.
Victor Moretti received a life sentence without the possibility of parole, his entire criminal network seized and liquidated by federal authorities.
On a warm Tuesday morning in June, Noelle and Damian stood inside the private chambers of Family Court Judge Beatrice Sterling.
The judge signed the final legal decree, stamping it with a heavy gold seal.
"Under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts," Judge Sterling announced with a warm, approving smile, "full, exclusive, and permanent legal and physical custody of Leo, Mateo, and Clara Marchetti is awarded jointly to Noelle Bishop and Damian Marchetti."
Noelle let out a soft cry of pure joy, covering her face as tears of relief spilled over her cheeks.
Damian wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her tightly against his chest, burying his face into her neck. "We did it, my love," he murmured, his voice rich with emotion. "They are legally, permanently ours."
As they walked out of the courthouse steps hand-in-hand, dozens of news reporters swarmed the plaza.
Instead of hiding behind guards, Noelle stood beside Damian, holding his hand high.
"Miss Bishop!" a reporter yelled over the crowd. "What do you have to say to other mothers who are fighting for their children?"

"Never stop fighting," Noelle declared, her voice ringing clear over the plaza. "No matter how powerful the lies are, no matter how deep the shadows seem... the truth will always bring your children home."
