Chapter 7 - Confrontation at the Gala

The Grand Ballroom of the Boston Ritz-Carlton was draped in silver satin, crystal chandeliers, and white orchids.
It was the annual St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Charity Gala—the highest-profile social event of the year, attended by senators, judges, industrial billionaires, and the city's elite.
At the head table sat Dr. Julian Harrison, wearing a tuxedo, smiling warmly as he accepted congratulations for raising five million dollars for the hospital's new pediatric wing. Beside him sat Victor Moretti—a wealthy, gray-haired man in an Italian suit, sipping champagne, believing his tracks in the alley attack had been completely erased.
"To the future of our children," Victor Moretti raised his glass, smiling smoothly at the local news cameras gathered around the stage.
Before Dr. Harrison could take a sip, the massive double doors of the ballroom blew open.
A heavy silence swept across the five hundred dressed-up guests.
Stepping into the ballroom was Damian Marchetti.
He looked impossibly handsome, wearing a tailored midnight-black tuxedo, his broad shoulders squared, radiating an aura of terrifying, regal authority.
And standing right beside him—her hand resting securely on his arm—was Noelle Bishop.
The room gasped.
Noelle looked extraordinary. She wore a floor-length emerald silk gown that cascaded like liquid jewel down her figure. Her dark hair was styled in romantic waves, framing her face. The faint mark near her thumb was hidden, but her hazel eyes burned with a fierce, brilliant light that commanded the attention of every soul in the room.
Behind them stepped ten federal agents in navy jackets, accompanied by Detective Marcus Reed of the Major Crimes Division.
"Damian?" Dr. Harrison stammered, his glass trembling in his hand as he stood up from the head table. "What... what is the meaning of this interruption?"
Damian didn't answer him. He led Noelle down the central marble aisle, the crowd parting before them like the Red Sea.
They stopped right in front of the head table.
"Dr. Harrison," Damian’s voice echoed through the high ceilings, rich, smooth, and carrying the weight of an executioner's blade. "You forgot to invite the mother of the year to your charity dinner."
Victor Moretti’s eyes narrowed into cold slits. "Marchetti, you're making a scene. Security, escort these people out!"
None of the venue security guards moved. They stood frozen, staring at the federal badges displayed by the agents behind Damian.
Noelle stepped forward, looking Dr. Harrison dead in the eye.
"Fourteen months ago, Dr. Harrison," Noelle said, her voice clear, strong, and carrying across every television camera broadcast live across the state. "You stood beside my hospital bed at St. Jude's and told me my triplets were dead."
The crowd murmured loudly. Reporters immediately pointed their microphones toward the stage.
"You gave me three silver memorial bracelets and told me to grieve," Noelle continued, her voice trembling with righteous fury. "While you took my living babies, forged their birth records, and sold them to Victor Moretti’s syndicate for ten million dollars!"
"This is slander! She's crazy!" Dr. Harrison shrieked, looking wildly at the surrounding crowd. "She’s an unstable former employee! Security!"
"It isn't slander, Harrison," Detective Reed stepped forward, pulling a thick binder of documents and a digital tablet from his coat. "Federal agents raided your private clinic two hours ago. We recovered the original, un-redacted birth logs from October fourteenth. We found the offshore bank transfers matching Victor Moretti’s shell companies."
A massive projector screen behind the stage suddenly flickered to life.
Damian’s IT team had hijacked the gala’s audio-visual system.
On the twenty-foot screen, high-definition security footage played—showing Dr. Harrison handing three newborn infants over to a black-market courier in the basement garage of St. Jude's fourteen months ago, followed by audio recordings of Moretti discussing the surrogate scam.
Gasps of horror erupted across the ballroom. Socialites covered their mouths; news cameras captured every single frame in vivid 4K resolution.
Victor Moretti stood up frantically, reaching into his coat—
CLICK!
Reyes and three federal agents drew their sidearms instantly, pointing them at Moretti’s chest. "Don't even think about it, Moretti."
Victor slowly lowered his hands, his face contorted in bitter defeat.
Federal agents moved in, slapping cold steel handcuffs around Dr. Harrison’s and Victor Moretti’s wrists right in front of the flashing news cameras.
As Dr. Harrison was dragged past Noelle, he looked at her with hollow, terrified eyes.
Noelle didn't flinch. She stood tall, holding Damian's hand tightly, watching the men who had stolen her life dragged away into the dark.

Damian turned to her, pulling her close in front of the entire city's elite. He leaned down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss against her forehead.
"It's over, Noelle," Damian whispered into her hair. "Justice is served."
