Chapter 6 - The Truth About My FatherPier 17 was empty.

Fog covered the water.

Clara carried the recording.

I held Mr. Buttons.

We entered the warehouse.

Vincent stood at the far end.

Moretti was tied to a chair.

His face was bruised.

But his eyes were awake.

When he saw me, his expression changed.

“Why is she here?”

Vincent smiled.

“Because she was the reason you came.”

Clara stepped forward.

“Let him go.”

Vincent shook his head.

“You still don't understand.”

He looked at me.

“Your mother wasn't supposed to survive.”

Clara froze.

“What?”

“Your mother was the only witness to the warehouse fire.”

Moretti stared.

“What does my daughter have to do with this?”

Vincent laughed.

“She doesn't know?”

Clara's face collapsed.

Vincent revealed the final secret.

My father had been Julian Moretti's informant.

He had helped expose Vincent.

But Vincent killed him.

Clara had escaped.

She took me with her.

For years, she had lived under different names.

Then Julian found her.

He offered protection.

When Julian died, Clara returned to the mansion because she had nowhere else to go.

Moretti stared at Clara.

“You should have told me.”

“I was afraid.”

“Of me?”

“Of what knowing the truth would do to you.”

Moretti looked at me.

Then he said quietly:

“You should never have carried this alone.”

Suddenly, gunfire erupted.

Security stormed the warehouse.

Vincent tried to escape.

But Marco had already blocked the exits.

Vincent was arrested.

The evidence was handed to federal investigators.

For the first time in decades, the Moretti family empire opened its books.
