Chapter 18 - The Boardroom Blueprint

While I was silently dismantling Arthur’s empire in the digital realm, he decided to accelerate the timeline in the physical world. Apex predators cannot stand to wait.

It was 2:00 AM. A violent, unseasonal thunderstorm was battering the estate. I was still at the granite island, downloading decades of Arthur’s corrupt payrolls, cartel bribes, and offshore laundering receipts.

Suddenly, the perimeter alarms of the estate shrieked, a high-pitched wail that sliced right through the thunder.

Julian pulled the biometric lockbox from beneath the pantry floorboards and retrieved a matte-black firearm. Through the internal security monitors, we watched six heavily armed mercenaries wearing tactical gear and night-vision goggles storm across the vast green lawn. They weren't police. They were a private, elite extraction team hired by Arthur to physically seize my server keys before the deadline.

“Take the kids to the panic room,” I commanded Julian, my voice entirely devoid of fear. “Lock the steel bulkheads. Do not open them for anyone but me.”

“I’m not leaving you up here,” Julian fiercely whispered, his eyes blazing.

“You are protecting the foundation of this family,” I said, pressing a fierce, rapid kiss to his lips. “I will handle the rot.”

I killed the main power breaker, plunging the entire estate into pitch-black darkness. I stood my ground in the kitchen. The space wasn't just designed for culinary perfection; Julian had engineered it as a tactical fatal funnel. The solid stainless-steel cabinets provided flawless ballistic cover, and the tempered glass was shatter-proof.

The mercenaries kicked through the heavy wooden front doors, their laser sights cutting through the dark foyer. They moved with terrifying precision, expecting to find a panicked, helpless accountant. They didn't realize they had just walked into the home of a woman who was forged in the absolute darkest fires of betrayal.

As the first two mercenaries entered the kitchen, I used the reflection of a lightning strike against the steel refrigerator to perfectly track their movements. I triggered the estate’s internal security countermeasures from my phone. Blinding, high-intensity strobe lights mounted in the ceiling violently flashed to life, accompanied by a deafening, high-frequency acoustic deterrent.

The mercenaries dropped to their knees, completely blinded and disoriented. Before they could fire a single wild shot, I triggered the localized Halon gas suppression system. The dense, oxygen-depleting gas flooded the room, instantly choking them into unconsciousness. Within sixty seconds, the physical threat to my family was permanently dismantled on the very floor I had built to protect them.
