Chapter 11 - The Ledger in Balance

A year after the storm cleared, I sat on my back porch at dusk, watching Lily and Emma chase each other across the green lawn, their laughter carrying over the fence.

My phone rested on the patio table. It didn't buzz with toxic messages. It didn't ring with panicked apologies from a weak-willed husband manipulated by a parasitic sister.

The house was quiet, safe, and entirely mine.

I picked up my journal—the one where I kept track of my personal accounts, my business ventures, and my life’s balance sheet. For a long time, I had believed that keeping things quiet, swallowing my pride, and keeping the peace was the best way to maintain a family.

I had learned the hard way that peace bought at the cost of your own dignity is an illusion.

True peace came from boundaries. True strength came from truth.

I opened to a fresh page, picked up my pen, and wrote a single sentence at the top:

May you like

“The accounts are balanced, the foundation is secure, and the future belongs to us.”

I closed the journal, took a deep breath of the cool evening air, and smiled into the setting sun.
