Chapter 13 - The Fall of the Beaumont Dynasty

Z
The morning after Julian Beaumont’s confession, a torrential legal hurricane swept across the upper circles of Chicago. Armed with unassailable digital forensics, offshore banking ledgers, and Julian's signed federal affidavit, federal agents from the Department of Justice, flanked by state police, executed simultaneous search warrants on eight properties owned by the Beaumont conglomerate.
At nine o'clock sharp, three unmarked black government sedans pulled up to the grand gates of the Beaumont estate in Lake Forest.
Arthur Beaumont was arrested in his private study while eating breakfast, handcuffed in front of his domestic staff, and escorted out into the flashing red-and-blue lights of the press circus that had gathered along the perimeter.
By noon, the news was broadcasting across every television screen and financial terminal in the country: Billionaire Shipping Magnate Arthur Beaumont Indicted on Federal Racketeering, Smuggling, and Attempted Kidnapping Charges.
Inside the Reyes estate, the tension that had gripped the household for the past three days finally began to dissolve.
Elena and Damian sat together in the sunlit conservatory overlooking the manicured gardens, sipping fresh coffee as the television played muted news footage of Beaumont's arraignment. Rosalind walked into the room, carrying a silver tray with a basket of warm lavender scones, her face radiant with relief.
"The board of directors for the maritime trade commission just released a public statement, Mr. and Mrs. Reyes," Rosalind announced proudly. "They have officially stripped the Beaumont family of all voting rights and awarded the regional port oversight contract exclusively to the Reyes Logistics Conglomerate."
"Thank you, Rosalind," Damian smiled warmly. "Ensure the household staff receives a double bonus this month for their exceptional vigilance during the security lockdown."
"Right away, sir," Rosalind bowed her head and slipped out of the room.
Damian set his coffee cup down and turned to Elena, taking both of her hands in his. His gaze was softer, more peaceful than she had ever seen it.
"You dismantled a century-old dynasty without firing a single shot, Elena," Damian said, his voice laced with profound pride. "The streets are quiet. The board is united. And for the first time since my father's death, the Reyes empire is completely secure."
Elena smiled, leaning in to rest her forehead against his shoulder. "We did it together, Damian. We protected the people who couldn't protect themselves."
Damian wrapped his strong arms around her, kissing her temple gently. "Tonight, we leave the city behind. I have booked our private jet to our estate in Tuscany. Two weeks of silence, sunshine, and no bodyguards within fifty yards."

Elena’s heart soared at the thought. "Just you and me?"
"Just you and me, my queen," Damian whispered.
