Chapter 7 - The Reckoning on Pier 9

The storm raged violently as Luciano and his inner guard breached the high doors of the control tower.

Emergency red backup lights cast long, bloody shadows across the metal walkways. Down at the far end of the terminal, surrounded by three bleeding, disarmed bodyguards, stood Don Eduardo Romano and his daughter, Celeste.

Eduardo was holding a heavy silver pistol, but his hands were shaking violently. The old man looked broken—his grand play had failed, his escape route was blocked by iron gates, and the sound of Costa sirens was closing in from every direction.

Celeste stood beside him, her crimson gown soaked and muddy, her face twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated venom.

Luciano walked slowly down the center aisle, his heavy boots echoing against the steel floor. Chloe walked right beside him, her snub-nosed revolver held low at her side, her head held high.

"It's over, Eduardo," Luciano said, his voice cold and final as the grave. "Drop the gun."

Eduardo panted heavily, looking past Luciano at Chloe. "You... you let a woman run your empire, Luciano? You brought a servant to a blood fight?"

"She isn't a servant," Luciano said, stopping ten feet away, his gun pointed straight at Eduardo's chest. "She is the woman who just outsmarted your entire family in under twenty minutes. She knew where your power came from, and she cut it."

Celeste stepped forward, her eyes locked onto Chloe with murderous intent. "You pathetic little leech! You think you won? You think he loves you? He used you! You were a convenient piece of paper to stop a war!"

Chloe didn't flinch. She took a step ahead of Luciano, stepping directly into Celeste's line of sight.

"Maybe it started as a piece of paper, Celeste," Chloe said, her voice dropping into a low, icy calm that made even the guards behind them shiver. "Maybe I was just a housekeeper three days ago. But tonight, I am the woman standing between you and the kingdom you tried to steal. You spent your whole life preparing to be a mob boss's wife, studying diplomacy and music. But you forgot the most important lesson."

"And what is that, you vulgar girl?" Celeste spat.

"In this world," Chloe said, slowly raising her silver revolver and pointing it straight between Celeste’s eyes, "you don't get power because your father promised it to you. You take it. And you hold it."

Celeste gasped, taking an involuntary step back, her icy arrogance instantly shattering into pure terror as she looked into Chloe's unwavering, iron-filled eyes. She realized in that exact second that Chloe Mercer wasn't playing a role anymore. She was real.

Eduardo looked at his terrified daughter, then at the black barrels of twenty Costa guns aimed at his heart. His shoulders slumped. The heavy silver pistol slipped from his fingers and clattered loudly against the metal floor.

"Don't kill her," Eduardo whispered, his old voice cracking with defeat. "Please. Spare my daughter. I will surrender the union contracts. I will sign over the harbor land. I will take full responsibility for the fire."

Luciano looked at Eduardo, then turned his eyes to Chloe, silently giving her the ultimate authority.

Chloe looked at the sobbing Celeste, then lower her gun.

"Sign the harbor transfer papers over to the Costa trust by sunrise, Eduardo," Chloe said softly, her tone carrying the terrifying weight of absolute victory. "And take your daughter out of this city. If I ever see her face in Port Meridian again... I won't use a piece of paper to stop the war."
