Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Love

Three years later.

The afternoon sun hit the bronze plaque mounted beside the front gates of the Westchester property.

THE SOPHIA & LILY MORETTI FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN

The foundation, established by Dominic and managed by Anna, had grown into one of the state's largest charitable organizations, providing free healthcare, legal defense, and emergency shelter for underprivileged mothers and children across New York.

Inside the estate's sprawling library, eleven-year-old Ethan was sitting at a large oak desk, carefully reviewing a set of foundation budget reports. Beside him, six-year-old Lily was reading a chapter book out loud, her reading skills remarkably advanced for her age.

On the plush velvet rug near the fireplace, two-year-old Leo Moretti—Dominic and Anna’s youngest son—was busy stacking wooden building blocks into a towering spire.

Anna walked into the library, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and apple slices.

"Break time, young scholars," Anna announced cheerfully, setting the tray on the coffee table.

Leo immediately abandoned his blocks and toddled over on his chubby legs, reaching up for an apple slice. "Mommy! Look! Tower!"

"I see it, Leo! You did a wonderful job," Anna smiled, kissing the toddler's hair before turning to Ethan and Lily. "How are the foundation reports coming, Ethan?"

Ethan looked up, his face showing a mature confidence that mirrored his father’s. "We’ve approved funding for three new pediatric clinics in Brooklyn, Mom. Dad said I could present the budget at the board meeting next week."

"He’s very proud of you, Ethan," Anna said softly, stroking his hair. "And so am I."

Lily closed her book with a soft snap. "Mommy, can I go help Dad in the garden? He said he’s planting the new rose bushes today."

"Go ahead, sweetie," Anna smiled.

Lily scrambled off her chair and ran out through the French doors toward the rose garden, her yellow sundress fluttering in the spring breeze.

Anna walked over to the grand window looking out over the lawn.

Out in the garden, Dominic was on his knees in the rich brown earth, wearing work gloves, teaching six-year-old Lily how to plant a white rose bush. He was laughing as Lily accidentally splashed water from a small green can onto his boots.

Standing beside them was Marco, no longer wearing a tactical vest or carrying a visible sidearm, but wearing a comfortable polo shirt, chuckling at Dominic’s muddy face.

The Moretti family was no longer defined by the dark shadows of the underworld. Through love, strength, and an unwavering commitment to protect one another, they had built a legacy that was defined by light, hope, and community.

Anna leaned against the window frame, her heart full, watching her husband and children playing under the clear blue sky.

She had saved them all.
