Chapter 5 - The Master’s Vow

Three months later.

The Hudson Valley had shed its cold winter cloak, welcoming a glorious, sun-drenched spring. The gardens surrounding the estate were blooming with fresh white tulips, red roses, and lush green lawns.

The Moretti crime syndicate had been entirely dismantled by federal authorities following Victor Vance’s comprehensive confession. In exchange for full cooperation, Alessandro had successfully transitioned the entirety of the Romano business holdings into a fully legitimate, publicly audited logistics and infrastructure conglomerate.

The dark days of the syndicate were officially buried in the past.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, the estate’s grand patio was set up for an intimate garden celebration.

I stood near the stone balustrade wearing an elegant dusty-rose silk dress, sipping a glass of chilled lemonade, watching four-year-old Lily run across the grass with Poppy tucked under her arm, laughing as she chased butterfly shadows.

A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind.

Alessandro rested his chin against my shoulder, inhaling the scent of my perfume. He wore a simple navy linen shirt, looking relaxed, peaceful, and younger than I had ever seen him.

"She looks happy," Alessandro murmured softly, looking at Lily.

"She hasn't asked about hiding in months," I smiled, leaning back against his chest. "She knows this is her home now."

Alessandro turned me around gently in his arms, looking into my eyes with an intensity that made my breath hitch.

"It’s only her home if it’s your home too, Clara," he said softly.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box. When he opened it, a breathtaking oval-cut pink diamond ring glittered brilliantly under the spring sun.

"I spent years managing an empire built on fear and control," Alessandro said, his deep voice filled with profound emotion. "I thought strength meant trusting no one. But you and Lily taught me that real strength is the courage to love and protect what matters most."

He dropped onto one knee on the stone patio, holding the ring up toward me.

"Clara Vance," Alessandro said, his eyes shining with happy tears. "Will you marry me, and let me spend every day of my life being the husband and father you both deserve?"

Tears of pure joy spilled down my cheeks as I smiled down at him.

"Yes," I whispered, leaning down to wrap my arms around his neck. "Yes, Alessandro! A thousand times yes!"

Lily came running over, her tiny shoes pattering against the stone. "Mommy! Is Mr. Alessandro staying with us forever?"

May you like

Alessandro laughed, picking Lily up into his arms and lifting her high into the air as she giggled with delight.

"Forever, little one," Alessandro declared, bringing her down and kissing her cheek. "No one ever has to go away again."
