Chapter 4 - The Counter-Strike

Inside her private office at Keane Meridian Tower, Audrey watched the live television broadcast on a massive wall-mounted screen.
She sat quietly, sipping her tea, watching her mother-in-law weep fake tears and listening to her husband pretend to be an innocent victim.
Malcolm Price stood beside her, his face dark with fury. "The audacity of these people! They are painting you as a monster across national television! Should I have our PR firm issue a press release denying these claims?"
"No," Audrey said smoothly, her voice completely undisturbed. "A press release is defensive. We don't defend ourselves against lies, Malcolm. We expose the truth."
She turned her chair to face him. "Is the investigative audit from Hale & Row’s internal accounts completed?"
"Yes," Malcolm replied, handing her a thick black leather binder. "Our forensic accountants worked through the night. What they found is catastrophic for Weston and Claire."
Audrey opened the binder, her eyes skimming through bank transfers, offshore tax accounts, and fraudulent expense reports.
"Claire Beaumont has been systematically embezzling funds from Hale & Row’s marketing budget for eighteen months," Malcolm explained, pointing to the line items. "Over $4.2 million redirected to a shell company in the Cayman Islands registered under her brother's name. And Weston signed off on every single transaction, either out of sheer negligence or blind romantic favoritism."
Audrey closed the binder with a firm snap.
"What about Eleanor and Chloe?" Audrey asked quietly.
"Eleanor Hale’s luxury boutique in downtown Milwaukee was quietly funded using $800,000 of Keane Meridian’s tenant improvement grants that were meant for Hale & Row store renovations," Malcolm smiled coldly. "And Chloe Hale’s salary as 'Creative Director' at Hale & Row—$350,000 a year—was paid despite her living in Paris for eight months doing zero work."
Audrey stood up, straightening her blazer. Her eyes gleamed with an absolute, lethal intelligence.
"Call a live broadcast press conference at the Keane Meridian Center for 5:00 p.m. today," Audrey commanded softly. "Invite every major network that attended Weston’s circus."
"And what will you present, Audrey?" Malcolm asked, a proud grin spreading across his face.
Audrey picked up the black leather binder. "The truth. Uncut, unedited, and backed by bank receipts."
At 5:00 p.m., the grand auditorium of the Keane Meridian Center was packed to absolute capacity. Over two hundred reporters, news anchors, and financial analysts sat in breathless anticipation.
The lights dimmed, and Audrey Keane walked onto the stage.
She didn't wear dramatic makeup. She didn't weep. She wore a striking, crisp white suit, standing tall, radiant, and undeniably powerful behind the sleek podium.
"Good afternoon," Audrey’s calm, commanding voice resonated through the auditorium speakers. "Earlier today, Mr. Weston Hale and his family held a press conference accusing me of using corporate power out of personal malice. They painted themselves as hard-working victims of a wealthy heiress."
She tapped a button on the podium. Behind her, a massive high-definition screen lit up.
"Let us discuss the reality of Hale & Row," Audrey continued smoothly. "Five years ago, I personally provided $3 million in seed capital to launch Hale & Row. Over the past five years, Keane Meridian Holdings has provided over $45 million in rent subsidies, emergency loans, and marketing grants."
The reporters gasped as official bank statements and signed legal contracts appeared on the giant screen for the entire world to see.
"Furthermore," Audrey said, shifting to the next slide, "regarding the claims made by Mrs. Eleanor Hale and Miss Chloe Hale..."
Documents showing Eleanor’s $800,000 grant diversion and Chloe’s $350,000 ghost salary appeared in crystal-clear detail.
The room erupted into furious murmurs and camera flashes.
"And finally," Audrey’s voice grew lower, sharp as a razor, "regarding Chief Strategy Officer Claire Beaumont..."
The forensic audit detailing the $4.2 million offshore embezzlement scheme hit the screen. Complete with bank wire transfers, signatures, and account numbers.
"Hale & Row was not destroyed by a vengeful wife," Audrey declared, staring directly into the main news camera. "Hale & Row was destroyed by systemic corporate fraud, embezzlement, and a Chief Executive Officer who was too blind, too arrogant, and too incompetent to protect his own company. Effective immediately, Keane Meridian Holdings has filed formal criminal complaints with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Department of Justice."

Audrey closed her folder, bowed her head gracefully, and turned to walk off the stage.
The auditorium exploded into pure, unadulterated chaos! Reporters were screaming questions, cameras were flashing like blinding strobe lights, and live television anchors were practically shouting into their microphones as the entire country watched the complete, irreversible annihilation of Weston Hale’s empire.
