Chapter 6 - The Shadows of RecoveryTwo days later, the private medical suite on the top floor of Vance Tower was silent, save for the rhythmic beep of a heart monitor.

Damian lay in the hospital bed, his chest wrapped in thick white bandages, an IV line connected to his arm. The bullet had missed his vital organs by less than an inch, but he had lost a significant amount of blood.

Sienna sat in the armchair beside his bed, holding his hand tightly in both of hers. She hadn't left his side for forty-eight hours. She was still wearing a simple black sweater Nico had brought her, her face pale with exhaustion, but her eyes bright with unwavering devotion.

On the wall-mounted television screen, the news was playing on mute.

The headlines flashed in bright red letters: BILLIONAIRE GARRETT HOLLOWAY ARRESTED FOR MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR MONEY LAUNDERING AND FIRST-DEGREE MURDER.

The footage showed Holloway, his nose heavily bandaged and his hands cuffed behind his back, being led into a federal courthouse by dozens of armed FBI agents.

The door to the suite opened quietly. Nico Reyes stepped inside, holding a thick leather folder.

"He's not waking up yet?" Nico asked softly.

"The doctor said he needs rest," Sienna replied, her voice soft. She looked at the folder in Nico's hands. "Is that the final report?"

"Federal prosecutors just unsealed the indictment," Nico said, handing her a page. "Every single asset Holloway owned has been frozen. The evidence on that drive was so airtight that his lawyers refused to even apply for bail. He's going to spend the rest of his life in a maximum-security federal facility."

Nico paused, looking at Sienna with deep respect.

"And Special Agent Caleb Cross's name has been fully cleared," Nico added gently. "The Director of the FBI personally called this morning to issue a public apology and posthumously award Caleb the Distinguished Service Medal."

Tears trickled down Sienna’s cheeks, but for the first time in two years, they weren't tears of grief. They were tears of profound relief.

Her brother’s honor had been restored. The monster was in a cage.

A faint groan came from the bed.

Sienna immediately turned, dropping the papers and leaning over Damian. "Damian?"

Damian's eyelids fluttered open slowly. He blinked against the light, his whiskey eyes taking a moment to focus before landing on Sienna's face.

"Hey," he rasped, his voice rough and dry.

"Hey," Sienna whispered, a brilliant, beautiful smile breaking across her face as she squeezed his hand. "How do you feel?"

"Like I got hit by a truck," Damian murmured, forcing a small smile. He looked down at their joined hands, then up into her eyes. "Is it over?"

"It's over, Damian," Sienna said, her voice choking with emotion. "Holloway is gone. Caleb is cleared. We did it."

Damian let out a long, quiet breath, the tension leaving his heavy shoulders. He reached up with his free hand, his knuckles gently tracing the line of her jaw.

"You stayed," Damian whispered.

May you like

"I told you," Sienna murmured, leaning into his touch, her eyes shining with love. "I'm not going anywhere."

Nico quietly stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him, leaving them alone in the warm, quiet room.
