Chapter 9 - A Life Worth Fighting For

One year later.
The grand ballroom of the Calloway Estate in Lake Forest was decorated with thousands of white roses, crystal chandeliers, and glowing candles. Hundreds of guests—city officials, prominent business leaders, and loyal friends—filled the room, cheering as the orchestra played a joyful melody.
Lena stood near the tall glass doors leading out to the garden, wearing a breathtaking white silk wedding gown that trailed behind her like a sea of clouds.
Dominic walked up behind her, wearing a sharp black tuxedo. He wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his chin softly against her shoulder as they watched the guests dancing.
"Happy, Mrs. Vance?" Dominic whispered in her ear.
Lena smiled, leaning back against his broad chest, placing her hands over his. "More than happy, Dominic. I feel like I'm living in a fairytale."
"It's not a fairytale, Lena," Dominic murmured, kissing her neck softly. "It's our life. And I will protect it for as long as I draw breath."
Suddenly, a tiny voice shouted from the dance floor.
"Daddy! Look at me!"
Dominic and Lena turned to see little Nora—now nearly two years old—wearing a tiny white flower-girl dress and shiny red shoes, twirling around in circles until she tumbled hilariously onto the plush carpet.
Dominic laughed—a rich, booming, happy sound that echoed through the ballroom—and walked over to pick his daughter up into his arms, tossing her gently into the air as she squealed with delight.
Vincent stood near the entrance, holding a glass of champagne, watching the scene with a proud, rare smile on his stern face.
Lena walked over to stand beside her husband and daughter. Dominic wrapped one arm around Lena's waist, holding Nora tightly against his chest with the other.
Nora reached out her tiny hand, grabbing her mother's thumb with one hand and Dominic's cufflink with the other, bringing their hands together in a gentle, perfect union.

The cold blizzard that had once threatened to freeze Lena’s world was long gone. In its place was a warm, unbreakable love that had transformed a feared mob boss into a devoted father, and a desperate waitress into the queen of his heart.
They had survived the storm, conquered the shadows, and built a legacy of love that would last for generations to come.
