Chapter 7 - I Became Lila's Mommy Before I Became Adrian's Wife, and the Little Girl's Secret Finally Exposed the Last Person Who Wanted Us DeadLila became attached to me quickly.

She called me Mommy.

At first I corrected her.

Then I stopped.

Because one morning, she crawled into my bed and whispered:

“You smell like home.”

I cried.

Adrian found us.

He said nothing.

He simply sat beside us.

That was family.

Not blood.

Not documents.

Choice.

But danger remained.

The last enemy was someone we had overlooked.

Lila's nanny.

Mrs. Bell.

She had worked for Adrian for years.

She seemed kind.

Gentle.

Reliable.

But she had been feeding information to Voss.

She knew everything.

Our schedules.

Our movements.

Our security patterns.

She had even planted a tracker inside Lila's stuffed bear.

We discovered it when Lila complained that Captain Blue was making a buzzing sound.

I opened the toy.

There it was.

A tracker.

Adrian's expression became lethal.

“Who touched this?”

Lila pointed.

“Mrs. Bell.”

We found her.

She admitted everything.

But she wasn't working for Voss.

She was working for someone else.

Someone we thought was dead.

Gideon Moretti.

Adrian's father.

He had faked his death fifteen years earlier.

He had built the criminal network.

Voss had been working for him.

The entire conflict had been engineered.

He wanted the trust.

He wanted control over Adrian.

And he wanted Lila.

Because she was the next heir.

Adrian was devastated.

“My father.”

I held his hand.

“He doesn't get to decide who you become.”

We found Gideon.

He was hiding in an offshore estate.

The confrontation was brutal.

Gideon tried to manipulate Adrian.

“You owe me.”

Adrian laughed.

“I owe you nothing.”

“You are my son.”

“And she's my daughter.”

He pointed toward me.

“And she's my family.”

Gideon smiled.

“She made you weak.”

Adrian shook his head.

“She made me human.”

I cried.

The final evidence was released.

Gideon's network collapsed.

He was arrested.

The criminal empire ended.

Adrian's businesses became legitimate.

The trust funded charities.

The families rebuilt.

And Lila?

She finally slept without nightmares.

One night, she asked me:

“Are you my mommy now?”

I looked at her.

“If you want me to be.”

She smiled.

“Yes.”

She hugged me.

Adrian watched.

His eyes filled.

I understood then.

I had not come to the mansion because I wanted a family.

May you like

I came because a little girl gave me a cookie.

And somehow, that tiny act of kindness had rebuilt three broken lives.
