Chapter 5 - THE CONFRONTATION AT HALE MANOR

By 3:30 PM, the news hit Wall Street like a thunderclap: Vanguard Apex had formally called in Hale Logistics’ seventy-million-dollar debt.
Panicked and facing total ruin, Richard Hale had summoned an emergency meeting at his estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, desperately begging Nathaniel for a face-to-face sit-down.
At 4:00 PM, Nathaniel’s black Maybach pulled up the long driveway of Hale Manor.
Inside the mansion’s opulent living room, Richard Hale paced back and forth, clutching a whiskey glass, while Vanessa sat on a leather sofa, her eyes swollen from crying after reading the brutal tabloid exposes about her vanity and snobbery.
Nathaniel walked into the room, flanked by his chief legal counsel. He didn't sit down. He stood in the center of the room like an emperor delivering judgment.
“Nathaniel!” Richard rushed forward, his face pale and sweating. “Please! We’ve known each other for ten years! You can’t enforce this debt seizure! It will wipe out my family’s entire legacy!”
“You brought this upon yourself, Richard,” Nathaniel said coldly. “You thought you could use a tabloid smearing campaign to pressure me into renewing your contracts.”
“It was Vanessa!” Richard shouted, pointing a furious finger at his daughter. “She was hysterical! She lied to me about what happened at the gala! Vanessa, get over here and apologize to Nathaniel!”
Vanessa stood up slowly, her hands trembling as she approached Nathaniel. The arrogant high-society princess was completely broken.
“Nathaniel... I’m sorry,” she whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. “I shouldn't have yelled at the child. I was jealous... I was jealous because you never looked at me the way you look at that maid! Please... don't destroy my father’s life.”
Nathaniel looked at her with cool, unyielding eyes.
“You didn't just yell at a child, Vanessa,” Nathaniel said softly. “You tried to teach a four-year-old girl that her worth as a human being was determined by her mother’s job. You tried to crush a child’s spirit simply to feel powerful.”
He pulled a legal document from his attorney’s hands and laid it on the coffee table.
“I will not seize your fleet, Richard,” Nathaniel declared.
Richard let out a massive gasp of relief, falling back against a chair. “Thank God... thank you, Nathaniel!”
“On two conditions,” Nathaniel added, his tone sharpening like a blade. “First, Hale Logistics will sell fifty-one percent of its voting shares to the Cross Meridian Charitable Foundation at market value. Second, Miss Vanessa Hale will make a public, televised video apology to Elena Parker and her daughter, acknowledging her false statements.”
Vanessa gasped, her eyes wide with horror. “A public apology to a maid?! My reputation will be ruined forever!”
Nathaniel looked at his watch calmly. “You have three minutes before the debt seizure goes into full effect. If you refuse, you’ll be bankrupt by sunset.”

Richard grabbed a pen and shoved it into Vanessa’s hands. “Sign it! Sign it now, you foolish girl!”
With shaking hands and heavy sobs, Vanessa signed her name on the dotted line.
