Chapter 10 - THE SECOND WOMAN IN THE DELIVERY ROOM.

The hospital eventually identified the woman.

Melissa Grant.

She had signed in as agency support staff.

But no one could explain why she remained alone with Noah for forty-seven minutes.

The mystery did not undo what had already been resolved.

Richard lost any decision-making role over Noah’s trust.

Jonathan resigned from representing the family and faced professional review.

Bright Future Families opened its records to an independent investigation.

Sofia left the mansion.

Not because Ethan fired her.

Because she no longer wanted to stand beside Noah pretending she was only the maid.

Months later, she enrolled in nursing school using her own savings and a scholarship Caroline had quietly established before her death.

Ethan invited her to see Noah once a month.

Not as staff.

Not as his mother.

As Sofia.

On Noah’s first birthday, she arrived carrying a small wooden toy.

The moment he saw her, he smiled.

Ethan noticed.

This time, he did not fear the connection.

He was grateful for it.

After cake, Sofia handed him a hospital envelope she had received that morning.

Inside was an old photograph from Noah’s delivery room.

Sofia lay exhausted in the bed.

Noah rested beside her.

And in the background stood Melissa.

She was not looking at the baby.

She was looking directly at the camera.

Around her neck was Caroline’s missing gold locket.

Ethan turned the photograph over.

Someone had written one sentence:

MELISSA WAS NEVER JUST THE COORDINATOR.
