Chapter 4 - The Unmasking

By midnight, the red emergency lights still painted the penthouse in shades of crimson, but the gunfire had stopped.

Dante’s personal strike team—loyal tactical men who had been waiting in the service garage below—had breached the building, securing the penthouse, capturing the remaining Moretti shooters, and locking down all exits.

The wealthy guests who had spent the night cowering under tables were being quietly escorted down the service elevators by Dante’s men, terrified into absolute silence by non-disclosure agreements enforced at gunpoint.

In the center of the ruined ballroom, surrounded by shattered crystal and blood-stained silk, sat Richard Vale, bound to a heavy dining chair with zip-ties. Leo Moretti lay unconscious on the floor nearby, guarded by two armed men.

Sienna Vale sat on the marble steps, wrapped in a tactical jacket given to her by one of the guards. She was shaking uncontrollably, her diamond engagement ring looking grotesquely out of place on her trembling hand.

Petra, her assistant, was huddled in the corner, sobbing hysterically and refusing to look anyone in the eye.

Dante stood near the grand desk, wiping blood off his knuckles with a white handkerchief. He looked down at Richard Vale with pure, unadulterated contempt.

"Thirty million dollars, Richard," Dante said softly. "You sold out your own daughter's safety for thirty million dollars."

"Dante... please!" Richard whimpered, his face pale and slick with sweat. "They threatened to kill me! The Russians were going to break my legs! I had no choice!"

"You had a choice," a voice called out from the darkness of the hallway.

Mara walked back into the ballroom.

She was no longer wearing her apron. She had stripped off her stained housekeeper’s jacket, wearing a sleek black tank top and dark trousers she had retrieved from her locker. Her hair was pulled back into a high, commanding ponytail, and in her hand, she held a secure tablet she had retrieved from Carver’s office vault.

Sienna looked up, her tear-streaked eyes widening in utter disbelief as she saw the plain, pathetic housekeeper stepping forward with absolute authority.

"What is she doing here?!" Sienna spat through her tears, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and remaining arrogance. "Dante, why is the maid talking?!"

Dante didn't even look at Sienna. He stepped aside, allowing Mara to walk straight to the center of the room.

Mara tapped the screen of the tablet and turned it toward Dante and the captured men.

"Richard Vale didn't just coordinate with the Morettis," Mara revealed, her voice steady, precise, and completely taking control of the room. "Three months ago, he opened a joint offshore account in the Cayman Islands under Sienna’s legal trust name. He was planning to take the Moretti payout, execute Dante, and let Sienna take the legal blame for the financial fraud when the federal authorities investigated the estate."

Sienna’s breath hitched in her throat. She looked at her father in horror. "Father... you... you put the account in my name?"

Richard lowered his head, unable to speak.

"And you," Mara said, turning her icy gaze to Petra, who was cowering in the corner.

Petra flinched. "I... I didn't do anything!"

"You received fifty thousand dollars in wire transfers from Leo Moretti’s shell company over the last six weeks," Mara said coldly, reading from the ledger on her tablet. "You were the one who gave the florist the internal access codes to the west foyer service corridor."

Petra burst into fresh tears, burying her face in her hands.

Sienna sat frozen, her entire world collapsing into dust around her. The luxury, the prestige, the powerful marriage—it was all a toxic lie engineered by her father and her assistant to destroy the man she was supposed to marry.

Dante walked over to Mara, standing beside her like a towering wall of muscle and authority. He looked down at the tablet, then looked at Mara with a deep, profound respect that made Sienna’s chest tighten with bitter envy.

"How did you get into Carver’s vault files, Mara?" Dante asked softly, a faint trace of amusement in his voice.

"Carver uses his mother's maiden name and his birth year as the encryption code," Mara replied smoothly. "It took me forty seconds to break it."

Dante let out a low laugh—a genuine, dark sound that echoed through the ruined room.

He turned to his chief security officer, Marcus. "Take Richard Vale, Leo Moretti, and Petra down to the harbor docks. Turn them over to the federal task force along with these digital ledgers. Let them spend the next thirty years explaining their treason to a judge."

"No! Dante! Please!" Richard screamed as the guards cut his zip-ties and dragged him forcefully out of the ballroom. Petra was hauled out beside him, weeping hysterically.

When the heavy doors closed, only Dante, Mara, and Sienna remained in the vast, ruined space.
