Chapter 6 - A NEW DAY AT HAWTHORNE MANOR

Six Months LaterThe estate garden was filled with the vibrant colors of blooming summer flowers.
The dark, gloomy atmosphere of Hawthorne Manor was completely gone. The iron gates were open to the ocean breeze, the fountains splashed merrily under the afternoon sun, and the sound of laughter echoed through the wide stone corridors.
I stood on the glass sunroom patio, holding a clipboard with the summer event schedules for the estate staff. I wore a tailored linen suit, my hair pinned up neatly, fully commanding the operations of the fifty-acre property with confidence and ease.
In the middle of the green lawn, six-year-old Ella was running through the grass, wearing a bright pink sundress.
Chasing right behind her was Dante Russo.
The formidable ruler of coastal New Jersey was wearing a relaxed linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, laughing heartily as he tried to catch her in a game of tag. In his pocket, he no longer carried weapons or dark ledgers—he carried a small, customized medical kit containing Ella’s emergency supplies, never letting her leave his sight.
"You can't catch me, Mr. Dante!" Ella cheered, jumping over a flowerbed with boundless energy.
"Oh, is that a challenge?" Dante laughed, picking up his pace and swooping her up into the air, swinging her around while she squealed with delight.
I walked down the marble steps into the garden, watching them with a warm, beaming smile.
Dante set Ella gently down on the grass, giving her a high-five before walking over to join me on the stone path.
"She’s getting fast, Clara," Dante smiled, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead, his face full of healthy life and joy.
"She has good security keeping up with her," I teased softly.
Dante looked out over the ocean, then turned back to look at my daughter and me.
"Three months ago, I thought my legacy would be written in blood and business ledgers," Dante said quietly, his voice full of warm emotion. "Now I know my life was saved for a much better reason."

He reached out, taking my hand in his strong, steady grip, pulling me into a warm embrace as Ella came running back to wrap her arms around both of our legs.
The dark shadows of the past were completely gone. The rain had cleared, the poison was destroyed, and a new life had begun—built on courage, honor, and the unconditional love of a brave little girl.
