Chapter 5 - THE RECKONING AT DAWNBy dawn, the storm had finally passed over coastal New Jersey. The rain stopped, leaving the sky painted in brilliant shades of amber, gold, and soft pink over the Atlantic Ocean.

Dante stood on the grand marble balcony of Hawthorne Manor, holding a silver pocket watch in his hand.

I walked out to join him, wrapped in a warm wool shawl he had given me.

"Is it over with Silas?" I asked quietly.

Dante tilted his head, watching the sun rise over the ocean horizon. "Silas and his co-conspirators in New York have been completely stripped of their authority. The council has yielded. No one will ever threaten this estate—or anyone in it—again."

He turned to look at me, his dark eyes filled with a quiet, profound respect.

"You know, Clara," he said softly, "for twenty years, I believed that power came from fear. I built walls, hired armies, and ruled through intimidation. I thought that was the only way to survive."

"And now?" I asked.

Dante smiled—a real, genuine smile that reached his eyes, erasing years of darkness from his face.

"Now I know that true power comes from the willingness to protect those who save us," he said. "Your daughter taught me that in sixty seconds."

Down in the courtyard below, a black luxury sedan pulled up to the main entrance. Two medical couriers stepped out carrying a sealed, cooled aluminum case.

Dante gestured toward the courtyard. "Your first shipment of Ella’s specialized auto-injectors has arrived. Custom-designed, temperature-controlled, and backed by a 24-hour medical team stationed at the estate gates."

My heart swelled with overwhelming gratitude. I looked at the man who had once been a terrifying myth to the house staff, realizing that beneath the dark reputation of a syndicate boss lay a man bound by an unbreakable code of honor.
