Chapter 5 - THE PRICE OF REDEMPTION

Ten minutes later, inside the roaring, cavernous space of the hospital’s main generator room, Nia stood near the central breaker control panel.
The heavy door behind her slammed open.
Daniel leaned against the steel frame, covered in sweat, his charcoal sweater torn at the shoulder, blood dripping from a minor scrape on his temple. But he was standing. And behind him, Marcus Thorne and a squad of twelve armed Han security officers flooded the room, having finally broken through the external jammer network.
Julian Vance was dragged into the room moments later by two of Marcus’s men, his wrists zip-tied behind his back, his face covered in white fire extinguisher residue. Evelyn was right behind him, weeping hysterically in her ruined silk dress.
Daniel walked slowly across the room toward Nia. Every step looked like an effort of pure willpower, but his gaze was locked on her with an intensity that made everything else in the room fade into white noise.
"You're hurt," Nia said softly, reaching out automatically to inspect the cut on his temple.
"I’m fine," Daniel rasped, taking her hand and holding it tight against his chest. "You took on Julian Vance with a fire extinguisher?"
"He was trespassing in my hospital," Nia said, a tiny, defiant smile touching her lips. "I don't like people breaking things in my workplace."
Daniel chuckled—a deep, low sound that turned into a small cough before he pulled himself upright. He turned to look at Julian Vance.
"It’s over, Julian," Daniel said, his voice dropping into a chilling, absolute coldness. "Federal agents raided your lakefront estate twenty minutes ago. The financial ledgers in this velvet case..." He gestured to the box Nia was holding "...are already mirrored on the U.S. Attorney’s private server."
Julian’s face turned gray. "Daniel... listen to me. We can share the eastern docks. We can work out a settlement—"
"Four years ago, you made me choose between the woman I loved and the survival of my family," Daniel said calmly. "Today, I choose both. And you get nothing."
May you like
Daniel nodded to Marcus. "Hand them over to the federal marshals waiting outside."
As the Vance family was dragged away in handcuffs, the heavy silence of the generator room settled over them. The emergency lights faded back to bright, clean white as the main power grid came back online.
